Modi takes on Rahul, Sonia at Raipur Rally

Modi made scathing attack on the Congress leaders for opposing opinion polls, saying the fear of losing elections was the reason behind its “nonsensical” demand and “desperate” tactics. Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate launched a grilling attack against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi on their claim of the Centre was giving funds to the state but it was not able to use them properly. Modi asked sarcastically if these funds to Chhattisgarh are coming from Rahul’s “maternal uncle”- a dig at Sonia’s Italian origin.

“There are going to lose power in 2014. BJP and NDA are going to form the government in Delhi. Congress on fear are trying to ban all opinion polls. These scared, frightened people are in fear of losing power. They are talking nonsense and resorting to desperate tactics,” Modi said.

Modi targeting Sonia Gandhi, who said that the state is still poor and suffering from governance under BJP rule, and she should do “some homework and then come here”.

“All Congress leaders including the prime minister and the finance minister have praised the Chhattisgarh government. Your government has given several awards and felicitated Chhattisgarh so many times. The state has progressed under Raman Singh,” Modi said.

The BJP leader said the Congress should first implement the election promises it is making — like free rice and 24-hour electricity — in states where it is in power.

He also sought to know why the Congress is scared of disclosing the name of its chief ministerial candidate.

“If a sting is conducted of Congress leaders, they take the name of Ajit Jogi as their CM candidate. Do you fear losing the polls if his name is declared? What are the sins that are preventing you from declaring his name?” he said.

Alleging that Congress’s claims of giving massive funds to Chhattisgarh under various schemes are an insult to its people, Modi said, “Sonia Madam and Shehzade (Rahul) had come here. Said so much foodgrain and funds have been given. Are you people standing here with a begging bowl? What kind of language is the Congress speaking?”

Asserting that the people have a right to central funds, he said, “I want to ask Shehzada, did he get the money from his maternal uncle’s house? This is the people’s money.”Modi sought to know, “Why is the Congress trying to come to power through the backdoor”?

Expressing his condolences over the death of security personnel and polling staff in Maoist attack in the first phase of polls in Chhattisgarh, Modi said the Election Commission should put up the names of such martyrs on its website.

Oct WPI inflation grows at 7%

Driven by increase in the prices of wheat, fruits, egg, meat & fish, fibres, the WPI inflation increased to 7% (Y-O-Y) for the month of October 2013 as compared to 6.5% (Y-O-Y) for the month of September 2013. The Index for Wholesale Prices for the month of October 2013 rose by 0.3% to 180.3 from 179.7 for the previous month.

The build up in inflation in the financial year so far (October 2013) stands at 6% as compared to a build up of 4.66% in the corresponding period of the previous year. Buildup in WPI inflation has increased due to rise in the prices of vegetables, onion, fruits, milk, egg, meat & fish, fibers, cotton textiles, leather & leather products and rubber & plastic products etc.

Manufacturing inflation rises to 2.5% (weight 64.97%)

The WPI inflation for manufactured products rises to 2.50% vis-à-vis 2.03% in the month of September 2013. The index for this major group rose by 0.4% to 151.6 from 151.0 for the previous month.

Food inflation declines to 18.19% (Weight 14.34%)

Food inflation for the month of October 2013 has decreased to 18.19% as against 18.40% for the month of September 2013, on account of decrease in the prices of cereals, rice, onion, vegetables and milk.

The index for food articles group declined by 0.4% to 251.4 from 252.3 for the previous month due to lower price of ragi and maize (5% each), tea (4%) and poultry chicken, fruits & vegetables and fish-marine (3% each). However, the price of fish-inland (8%), moong (5%), coffee (3%), condiments & spices, egg, wheat, urad and pork (2% each) and rice, mutton, beef & buffalo meat, barley and arhar (1% each) moved up.

Non-food articles inflation rises to 6.79% (weight 4.26%)

The rate of inflation for non-food articles for the month of October 2013 stands at 6.79% as compared to 5.17% for the previous month. The index for non-food articles group declined by 0.7% to 212.3 from 213.7 for the previous month due to lower price of guar seed (16%), logs & timber (13%), raw rubber (11%), sunflower (4%), raw cotton (3%), castor seed (2%) and soyabean, gingelly seed and linseed (1% each). However, the price of copra (coconut) (12%), raw jute (6%), groundnut seed (5%), niger seed (2%) and coir fibre (1%) moved up.

Fuel & power inflation rises to 10.33% (weight 14.91%)

The rate of inflation for fuel and power for the month of October 2013 stands at 10.33% as compared to 10.08% for the previous month. The index for this major group rose by 0.9% to 209.4 from 207.5 for the previous month due to higher price of electricity (agricultural) (13%), electricity (industry) (10%), electricity (domestic) (5%), electricity (commercial) and electricity (railway traction) (4% each), aviation turbine fuel (3%) and bitumen, lubricants and kerosene (1% each). However, the price of petrol (4%) and furnace oil (3%) declined.

Day 3: Coca-Cola Cricket Cup U-16 Inter-School Tournament, Delhi-leg

Ankit Smashes Ton as Bal Bhaval International School Score 400;
DPS Rohini Advance to Next Round

New Delhi, 14^th November 2013: Ankit Pratap Singh’s splendid century helped Bal Bhavan International School, Dwarka thrash Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vasant Vihar by a huge margin of 278 runs in a Group G league match of the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup U-16 inter-school tournament, played at Bal Bhavan International School ground today.

Bal Bhavan won the toss and opted to bat first. Ankit led the batting line-up with his 106-run knock, smashing boundaries all over the ground. From the other end, Dushyant Dagar (73), Mayank Rawat (69) and Nikhil Tanwar (63) hit half-centuries and took the score to mammoth 400 in 39.3 overs.

While chasing the unachievable target, Chinmaya Vidyalaya team managed to score only 122 runs. Bal Bhavan bowler Rinku Chikara spearheaded the bowling attack with his five-wicket haul and rattled the opponents’ batting line-up. From the other end, Lavish Jangid claimed four wickets and helped his team to bundle-out the opponents in just 20.5 overs.

Only Abhishek Diwan showed some resistance with his consolation knock of 55 runs.

Ankit was adjudged Man-of-the-Match for his brilliant century.

The Delhi-leg of the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup 2013-14 involve participation from 64 leading under-16 teams with matches being played at various grounds across the Capital. The tournament has commenced from the second week of November and will run for around 3 to 4 weeks. Matches until the quarter-finals will be played on a knock-out format, the 8 quarter-finalists will then play a league.

The teams and players performing will stand a chance to win prizes at each stage post the quarter-final round. The winners and runners up of the Delhi-leg will be awarded prizes worth Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 35,000 respectively.

Match 2: In a Group D league match, Kunal Dabas’ all-round performance helped Delhi Public School, Rohini defeat Gurusharan Convent School, Paschim Vihar by 9 wickets at Bharat Nagar ground today.

Gurusharan Convent School won the toss and chose to bat first. However, they failed to materialise the opportunity and the whole team were bowled-out at a meagre score of 90. Delhi Public School’s Rohan Sharma bowled fiercely and his four-wicket haul destabilised the oppositions’ batting line-up. From the other end, Rakshit Mehta (2/9) and Kunal Dabas (2/17) took two wickets each to restrict the oppositions in 35.5 overs

Batting second, Delhi Public School chased down the target in just 15 overs by losing one wicket. Opener Aadish Goyal hit boundaries all over the ground and gave a perfect start with his 44-run knock before getting run-out. Kunal played responsibly and scored unbeaten 34 to take his team to next round of the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup 2013-14.

Kunal was adjudged Man-of-the-Match for his all-round show.

Gauri Monga Wins the USHA Eastern India Ladies & Junior Girls Amateur Golf Championship 2013

Kolkata, November 14: Gauri Monga, returned her worst card over three days, but still managed to come up trumps to win the USHA Eastern India Ladies & Junior Girls Amateur Golf Championship 2013, which concluded at the Tollygunge Golf Club course. A former Indian Golf Union (IGU) Ladies tour winner, Gauri, who was lying third behind Gursimar Badwal and IGU Ladies Tour Order of Merit leader Gurbani Singh at the end of day two, carded a two over 72 on the final day, which eventually turned out to be enough to give her a one shot victory. This was Gauri’s second title on the IGU Ladies tour in the past one month. She had also won the USHA DGC Ladies open in Delhi last month. Currently lying fifth of the IGU ladies tour merit list, these victories are sure to move her up the rankings.

Gauri’s efforts by greatly aided by her two closest rivals on the course today. Both overnight leader Gursimar and second placed Gurbani had a horrendous day with six bogeys each. In Gurbani’s case, lack of tournament play clearly showed, as someone who at worst plays percentage golf and is known to finish strong, just could not get her putter going. She was playing after a gap of more than a month and had not participated in the two previous tournaments. Gursimar, after registering two sub-par rounds over two days quite inexplicably lost her lead, nerve and eventually the title to finish joint second alongside Gurbani. For the record, Gurbani carded a five over 75 while Gursimar returned a score of six over 76 on the final day. Seher Atwal recorded the best card of the final day, carding an even par 70 to finish seventh in the overall standings.

MUMBAI, November 14, 2013: Seeking to raise the standard of racing, the Royal Western India Turf Club Ltd (RWITC) today announced the introduction of a series of initiatives, including a Whistle Blower policy, aimed at promoting a strong culture of governance and ethics in the business of the historic club.

The Whistleblower Policy is a critical step towards bridging the gap among all stakeholders and to provide an ‘Early Warning System’ to promote a strong culture of governance and ethics in the club, said Mr. Khushroo N Dhunjibhoy, Chairman, Royal Western India Turf Club.

“For RWITC, one of our most vital assets is our reputation for ethical behaviour and fair business. Since its inception, the Club has been known to work with integrity and conscientiousness. As we start the racing season from this Sunday, the initiatives are aimed at building a framework for reporting instances of unethical conduct and auctioning suitable steps to investigate and correct fraud and misconduct. We will take all possible measures to protect the reputation of the Club and promote a culture of honesty and fair play,” Mr Dhunjibhoy explained.

He said RWITC has also decided not to entertain any tainted jockeys. “We will not allow them to ride here and in Pune,” he declared.

RWITC will also install complaint boxes at the Mahalaxmi Race Course where race goers can drop their grievances, if any, during the races.

Taking cognisance of an ongoing inquiry into an incident related to the alleged fixing of a race in February 2010, the CLUB STANDS BY its commitment to conducting business with integrity and professionalism. To fortify the whistle blowing initiative, RWITC has entered into an association with Ethics Centre, an independent entity focused on ethics and governance, the purpose of which is to provide members with an alternative communication channel outside the company structure for reporting concerns.

Ethics Centre is an avenue to bring genuine and serious issues with respect to unethical and/or improper practices to the fore in most transparent, confidential and anonymous manner. The Club will also take all necessary measures to protect every whistleblower making disclosures in good faith against an adverse personal action, victimization, retaliation or discrimination. In its endeavour to further tighten security and vigilance at the stable areas at the Mumbai and Pune Race Courses, RWITC is in the process of installing surveillance cameras in the stable areas. The feed from the cameras will be relayed to a control room, which will be monitored on a 24×7 basis by supervisors and operators.

A Field Response Team (FST) comprising of Nodal Security Officer and security personnel will be patrolling the stable area to keep a strict vigil and they will be in constant touch with the control room and designated officials of the Club. RFID based tags for visitors, CCTV cameras are also being installed at the entrances and enclosures at strategic locations. Flap barriers are being installed at entrances and the ticketing system is being converted into a token based one linked to flag barriers. Apart from this, door and hand held metal detectors are being installed at entrances. Wrist bands are being issued to authorized mobile phone users during races. A vigilance team, aided by advance technology, will be deployed to check unauthorized use of mobile phones these measures are being taken in the interest of owners, trainers, racing patrons and security of horses, Mr Dhunjibhoy explained.

The committee has also decided to introduce electronic voting for committee and board of appeal at the forthcoming Annual General Body Meeting to be held next month. The Club is also in the process of revamping racing rules, and amendments will be placed before the General Body of members next month.

Since its inception, the Club has been very popular amongst all stratum of the society and thus it has grown inorganically to cater to various needs of the stakeholders.

Prasar Bharati signs MoU with Radio-TV Slovenia

National broadcaster Prasar Bharati has signed an agreement with Radio-Television Slovenia to explore possibilities in co-production of programmes and sharing of expertise in various fields.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed after a high-level delegation led by Slovenia’s Deputy Prime Minister Karl Viktor Erjavec and other dignitaries visited Prasar Bharati in New Delhi on Wednesday.

This agreement aims at trading expertise of each of the broadcasters and entails exchange programmes in the fields of culture, education, science, entertainment, sports, news and training.

Erjavec said, “In today’s world, TV is the medium with the most significant impact in the life of culture, education, science, entertainment, sports, and news. And I am sure this agreement will bring additional opportunities to strengthen so important people-to-people contacts and bring better understanding of our nations.”

Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar said that the national broadcaster would strive to reach the heart of Slovenian people through heightened cooperation as envisaged in the MoU.

Pakistan wants resumption of dialogue with India

Pakistan on Wednesday said it wants the resumption of the dialogue process with India for resolving all outstanding issues, including the “core issue” of Kashmir.

Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Chaudhry said Kashmir is the core issue between the two countries and its solution lies in the dialogue process, which should include the Kashmiri leadership.

Pakistan has always extended moral diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiri people for their “right to self-determination”, he was quoted as saying by state-run Radio Pakistan.

Asked about the engagements of Sartaj Aziz, the premier’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs, on the sidelines of a multi-lateral meet in Gurgaon Chaudhry said Aziz held talks with External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon on all issues, including the situation on the Line of Control (LoC).

He told a weekly news briefing that the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan have had several contacts on the situation along the LoC and concurred on the need to normalise the situation at the international boundary. The ceasefire agreement of 2003 should be respected for a peaceful environment between the two countries, Chaudhry said.

Aziz also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and affirmed Pakistan’s desire for friendly and peaceful neighbourly relations with India. He handed over to Singh a message of good wishes from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Aziz also expressed Pakistan’s desire for resuming the dialogue process.

Responding to a question about new Pakistani Taliban chief Mullah Fazlullah Chaudhry said Pakistan has made it clear to Afghanistan several times that it should not allow its territory to be used against Pakistan. He expressed confidence that Afghanistan will take the required steps in this regard. Fazlullah fled Pakistan in 2009 and is currently believed to be based in Afghanistan. Chaudhry said a visit to Kabul by Prime Minister Sharif is on the cards but no dates have been fixed as yet.

Asked about the whereabouts of Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Baradar recently released by Pakistani security agencies, Chaudhry said he was in the country and could contact his family. Pakistan released Baradar to advance the Afghan peace and reconciliation process, he said.

Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2013 Result

On the basis of the written results of the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2013 held by the Union Public Service Commission in October, 2013, the candidates with the under mentioned Roll Numbers have qualified for Personality Test.

Candidature of these candidates is provisional subject to their being found eligible in all respects. The candidates will be required to produce the original certificates in support of their claims pertaining to age, educational qualifications, community, physical handicap and other documents such as Attestation Form and TA Form, etc. at the time of their Personality Test.

Interview of Candidates who have qualified for the Personality Test are likely to be held in December, 2013. The exact date of interview will, however, be intimated to the candidates through Interview Letter/e-mail. Roll Number wise Interview Schedule will also be made available on Commission’s Website in due course. The candidates are advised to check their e-mail also for further information. The candidates who do not receive communication regarding their Personality Test, should immediately contact the office of the Commission through letter or on Phone Nos. 011-23385271, 011-23381125, 011-23098543 or Fax No. 011-23387310, 011-23384472.

No request for change in the date and time of the Personality Test intimated to the candidates will be entertained.

The mark-sheets of candidates who have not qualified, will be put on the Commission’s Website within 15 days from the date of publication of the final result (after conducting Personality Test) and will remain available on the Website for a period of 60 days.

Cameron meets Tamil leaders in Lanka’s northern province

Against the backdrop of alleged rights violations in the war against the LTTE, British Prime Minister David Cameron on Friday made a historic visit to Sri Lanka’s Northern Province and met Tamil leaders, including the newly-elected Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran.

Hours after the CHOGM summit opened in Colombo, Cameron flew to northern Sri Lankabecoming the first foreign leader since 1948 to do so.

The Tamils’ treatment at the end of the country’s civil war dominated the run-up to the Commonwealth summit with the British Prime Minister defying calls for him to boycott the event in protest against alleged human rights abuses.

Cameron has insisted there should be a proper investigation into alleged Sri Lankan war crimes in the final months of the conflict which ended in 2009.

In a highly symbolic move, Cameron travelled to the Tamil-dominated north of the country and toured a library in Jaffna, which was repeatedly attacked and rebuilt during the conflict and met chief minister C V Wigneswaran, of the Tamil National Alliance.

Cameron was greeted by a group, mainly women, who claim their relatives disappeared during the conflict and who were “absolutely desperate” to press pictures of their loved ones and petitions into the hands of British officials, a news agency reported.

There was also a rival demonstration by pro-government supporters calling for an investigation into alleged abuses during the period of British rule prior to 1948.

Before returning to Colombo, Cameron also visited the offices of the Uthayan newspaper, whose presses were burned down earlier this year and whose journalists have been routinely attacked.

“This is going to make a very lasting impression on me. That is something you don’t forget,” Cameron told journalists at the Uthayan (“The Sun”) daily.

“But it’s only when you see it with your own eyes, it really brings home just how much you’re suffering,” Cameron said.

The Sri Lankan government has reacted angrily to suggestions that Cameron will press President Mahinda Rajapaksa over human rights during the three-day Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

India International Trade Fair starts in Delhi

The 33rd India International Trade Fair, which ever since its inception in 1980 has evolved as a major event for the Business community, began in New Delhi on Thursday.

President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the India International Trade Fair (IITF).The Theme of IITF 2013 is Inclusive Growth with Bihar as Partner State and Japan as Partner Country.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will start selling India International Trade Fair (IITF) entry tickets for business days from tomorrow and for general public days from November 19.

Tickets for business days, November 14 to November 18, will be available only from 27 Metro stations.

These are Rithala, Dilshad Garden, Jahangirpuri, HUDA City Centre, Noida City Centre, Anand Vihar, Central Secretariat, Inderlok, Kashmere Gate, Rajiv Chowk, Barakhamba, Saket, MG Road, Noida Sec-15, Vaishali, Rajori Garden, Janakpuri West, Dwarka Mor, Dwarka Sec-9, Mundka, Peeragrahi, Punjabi Bagh, Badarpur, Govindpuri, Lajpat Nagar and Dhaula Kuan Metro station.

The IITF entry tickets for general public days, November 19 to November 27, will be available on all Metro stations.

“General public is advised to avoid last minute rush of purchasing tickets at Pragati Maidan Metro station, they shall purchase the tickets from their originating station,” said Anuj Dayal, DMRC Executive Director, Corporate Communications.

The tickets for both business as well as general days can be purchased from Customer Care Centres of Metro stations from 8:30 AM to 4 PM on all days.

The entry tickets at Metro stations will be priced as Rs 400 for business days and for general days Rs 50 (Adult) and Rs 30 (child).

However, on weekends or holidays, the entry tickets for non-business days would be prices at Rs 80 (Adults) and Rs 50 (Child).

In order to facilitate the public using Delhi Metro while going back from ongoing IITF at Pragati Maidan, the metro services will be exclusively operating 20 token/smart card counters from within the premises of IITF, Pragati Maidan near its Gate No. 10 from 1 PM to 9 PM on all general days.

“The DMRC is expecting massive crowds to use the Pragati Maidan Metro Station and, therefore, additional ticket counters will be opened at Pragati Maidan Metro station. Additional DMRC officers and staff, customer facilitation agents and security staff will also be deployed at all stations,” Dayal said.

During the general days of IITF trains will be running at peak hour frequency of 2 min 40 sec from Dwarka to Yamuna Bank throughout the day (8 AM to 8 PM). Besides this, two trains on each Line will also be kept as standby during Trade Fair to facilitate better passenger handling, whenever required, Dayal added.

Defence Minister A K Antony will be arriving in Severodvinsk on Friday night for the commissioning of aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya on Saturday at Sevmash Shipyard, Russia’s nuclear submarine building centre.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin and senior government and naval officials of the two countries are also scheduled to attend the ceremony for handing over the Kiev class carrier (formerly called Admiral Gorshkov) retrofitted and upgraded under Project 114430 at the cost of USD 2.3 billion.

After almost nine years of negotiations the initial USD 1.5 billion contract for retrofitting the aircraft carrier and buying 16 MiG-29K, K/UB deck-based fighters was signed in 2004.

In 1998, to break the deadlock, the government of then Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov had offered the aircraft carrier, currently moored in a White Sea naval base in northern Russia for free to India, provided New Delhi paid for its repairs and modernisation.

However, lack of due diligence at the time of initial assessment of work led to whopping cost escalation that stalled its repairs and modernisation.

The aircraft carrier deal had become a major irritant in bilateral relations. By the end of 2007, when it became clear that Russia will not deliver the radically redesigned vessel by 2008 deadline, the relations dipped to an all-time low.

However, the two countries inked an additional agreement under which India agreed to pay a higher price for its refit.

In their private discussions Indian officials conceded that even with the cost escalation, it was a good deal, since a similar vessel would cost not less than double the price in the international market, but nobody makes aircraft carriers for export.

“Almost everything on the Vikramaditya is new,” Chief Delivery Commissioner of Sevmash shipyard, Igor Leonov said.

Leonov said only 40 per cent hull of the vessel was original while rest was absolutely new.

“The Indian Navy, which always maintained its engineers and technicians on the vessel throughout the refit and modernisation process took the right decision to change many aggregates, components and entire cabling, instead of their repairs,” Leonov, who will lead the onboard Russian guaranty team during the Vikramaditya’s almost two-month voyage to its home base on the Western coast of India in Karwar.

India pledges over USD 11 million to UN bodies for 2014

India has contributed over USD 11 million to various UN bodies for development activities for the year 2014.

India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Manjeev Singh Puri told the General Assembly that while India has its “own plate full of developmental challenges”that need to be addressed, the country has still always attempted to contribute to increasing the availability of core resources for development activities of theUnited Nations system.

I India’s pledges of contributions for operational activities of development for the year 2014 include USD 4.5 million for the UN Development Programme (UNDP), USD 1.9 million for the World Food Programme and USD 1 million to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

I India has also made contributions of several hundred thousand dollars to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), UN Population Fund (UNFPA), UN Office on Drugs andCrime (UNODC), Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery, and Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Torture.

I In addition, India also has a standing five-year commitment of USD 5 million towards UN Women, of which USD 3 million has already been contributed.

TRAI Releases Consultation Paper on ‘Revenue Sharing Arrangements for Calling Card Services’

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) here today released a Consultation Paper on ‘Revenue Sharing Arrangements for Calling Card Services’. The objective of this paper is to discuss the various issues related to revenue sharing arrangements for Intelligent Network Based Calling Card Services. This Consultation Paper (CP) provides the relevant background information and discusses the need and methodology to determine the charges to be paid by the National Long Distance Operator (NLDO)/ International Long Distance Operator (ILDO) to the Access Providers for Calling Card Services.

In the currently prevailing regime, a customer does not have the option to choose its long distance carrier. The customer depends on its Access Provider for NLD/ILD calls. And, it is the Access Provider which chooses the NLDO/ILDO to whom the call is handed over for further carriage based on mutual commercial agreements between them. Though customer can choose its access provider but choice of NLDO/ILDO is not available to it. Calling cards will provide a real choice to the consumer for picking an NLDO/ILDO which offers the most competitive tariff for NLD/ILD calls viz. irrespective of the customer’s access provider.

Written comments on the issues raised in the consultation paper are invited from the stakeholders by 28th November 2013 and counter-comments by 6th December 2013.

Samyak Jain’s Fiver Helps Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Defeat Sachdeva Public School

New Delhi, 15^th November 2013: Samyak Jain’s lethal bowling helped Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, ITO beat Sachdeva Public School, Rohini by two wickets in a Group G league match of the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup U-16 inter-school tournament, played at Bharat Nagar ground today.

Sachdeva Public School won the toss and opted to bat first. However, they failed to materialise the opportunity and the whole team were bowled-out at a meagre score of 71 runs. Samyak Jain spearheaded the bowling attack with his five-wicket haul to rattle the opponents’ batting line-up. From the other end, Piyush Dondiyal claimed three wickets to restrict them in 26.2 overs.

Batting second, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan achieved the target in just 14.5 overs after losing two wickets. Shashank Kohli led the batting line-up with his unbeaten knock of 34 runs.

Samyak was adjudged Man-of-the Match for his bowling performance.

New Delhi, November 15, 2013: Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Facebook have joined hands to provide citizens the up-to-date candidates’ information for the upcoming State Assembly Elections and Lok Sabha Elections to help them make an informed choice. Voters will now be able to access election candidates’ criminal, financial, educational, professional etc. information directly on their mobile via Facebook using USSD technology[1].

How to access the information on election candidates for free-

Access to information has never been simpler, faster and cheaper — all users have to do is dial *325# from their mobile to access Facebook and select the election menu (option 6) or directly dial *325*35# to access the election menu for no charge.

Promoting their upcoming movie ‘Ram Leela’ on the sets of India’s biggest dance reality show – ‘Dance India Dance’, heartthrob Ranveer Singh and Ganesh Acharya will be seen ‘dancing it out’ along with the judges and contestants of the show this Saturday, 16^th November at 9 PM, only .

Entering the show dancing on the famous ‘Tattad Tattad’ from their upcoming caper, the actor-choregrapher duo seemed to have a blast during their visit to the sets. नई दिल्ली, 15 नवम्बर। न्यायालय द्वारा रामलीला फिल्म में से रामलीला शब्द को हटाने के आदेश के बाद भी आज सिनेमाघरों में चलाई गई फिल्म रामलीला पर तत्काल रोक लगाने और सिनेमाघरों से उतारे जाने की मांग को लेकर राष्ट्रवादी शिवसेना द्वारा नई दिल्ली स्थित रीगल सिनेमा पर आयोजित विरोध प्रदर्शन कर रहे पार्टी प्रमुख श्री जयभगवान गोयल सहित तमाम पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं को पुलिस गिरफ्तार करके थाना क्नाट प्लेस ले गई। श्री गोयल के साथ गिरफ्तार होने वालो में पार्टी प्रदेश अध्यक्ष चै. ईश्वर पाल सिंह तेवतिया सहित मदन लाल माहौर, स्वामी ओम जी, जितेन्द्र यादव, श्रीमति सुमन आदि प्रमुख नेता थे।

इस मौके पर पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं ने केन्द्रीय कानून मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल का पुतला भी फूंका। कार्यकर्ताओं का नेतृत्व पार्टी प्रमुख श्री जयभगवान गोयल कर रहे थे। कार्यक्रम का आयोजन पार्टी की दिल्ली ईकाई द्वारा किया गया।

प्रदर्शन के दौरान उपस्थित पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं को संबोधित करते हुए श्री गोयल ने कहा कि संजय लीला भंसाली की यह फिल्म देश व दुनिया में हिन्दू समाज की धार्मिक भावनाओं पर आघात तो कर ही रही है, न्यायालय के आदेशों की भी धज्जियां उड़ा रही है जिसे केन्द्रीय कानून मंत्री व कांग्रेस के नेता समर्थन दे रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि कल मध्य प्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय जबलपुर के कार्यवाहक मुख्य न्यायाधीश के.के. लाहौटी एवं न्यायाधीश सुभाष काकड़े की युगल पीठ ने अपने आदेश में संजय लीला भंसाली की इस नई फिल्म में से रामलीला शब्द को हटाने का आदेश दिया है परंतु न्यायालय के आदेशों के बाद भी आज निर्देशक द्वारा इस फिल्म का नाम न बदलकर रामलीला के नाम से ही प्रदर्शित की गई है और राजधानी दिल्ली सहित देश के तमाम हिस्सो के सिनेमाघरों में दिखाई जा रही है जो न्यायालय की अवमानना के साथ-साथ हिन्दू समाज की धार्मिक भावनाओं का भी निरादर है। उन्होंने कहा कि इससे पूर्व भी राजनैतिक दवाब के कारण ही दिल्ली की कड़कड़डूमा जिला अदालत द्वारा एक ही रात में अपने फैसले को बदला गया था।

श्री गोयल ने प्रशासन से मांग करते हुए कहा कि फिल्म को सिनेमाघरों में चलने से रोका जाएं और अदालत की अवमानना करने वाले सिनेमाघर मालिकों व फिल्म के निर्माता निर्देशक पर कड़ी कानूनी कार्यवाही की जाए साथ ही हिन्दू विरोधी कांग्रेस सरकार व फिल्म के निर्माता को चेतावनी देते हुए कहा कि जब तक इस फिल्म पर रोक नहीं लगती उनका यह आंदोलन जारी रहेगा।

After years of struggles by the people’s movements in the country, the colonial Land Acquisition Act, 1894 has been repealed and a new law titled, Right to Fair Compensation, Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013, been enacted.

NAPM has organised a two day meeting on November 19-20, 2013 at Gandhi peace Foundation, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, New Delhi to discuss the struggle for land rights and against displacement in the context of the new land act. The meeting has been organised with three key points in mind :

1. Understand, know and explain the new act to many of the struggle groups who will be coming for this.

2. What is going to be its political implication once the law will come in force on the ground.

3. What next for the land rights struggles, in the current context when struggle for land and resources attached to it are unfolding in urban centres, villages, forests and on coast too ?

Indians lose on second day of China Open

Indian shuttlers endured a disappointing day at the China Open Super Series Premier with star player Saina Nehwal going down in the women’s singles second round while Parupalli Kashyap crashed out of the men’s singles competition.

While Saina lost 21-16 15-21 17-21 to unseeded Sun Yu of China, Arundhati Pantawane was defeated 13-21 10-21 by third seed Wang Yihan, also of China. Kashyap was defeated 11-21 12-21 by Kento Momota of Japan.

Saina, who was hoping to win her first trophy of the season, started off well, coming back from an early 4-1 deficit to dominate the opening game.

But it was a completely different story in the second game as Sun opened up a 3-0 lead right at the start and maintained the advantage right till the end to even up the score.

The third and final game was an exciting affair with both players going all out. Sania put up good a fight, winning three consecutive games to draw level at 8-8 before the Chinese came up with an incredible seven point streak to lead 15-8.

The Hyderabad girl was in no mood to go down without a fight and she produced a seven-point streak of her own to draw level yet again at 15-15. However, Sun had the last laugh, taking four points on the trot towards the end to wrap up the match.

Sun will now face compatriot and top seed Li Xuerui in the quarterfinals.

Women’s singles: 6-Saina Nehwal lost to Sun Yu (Chn) 21-16, 15-21, 17-21; Arundhati Pantawane lost to Wang Yihan (Chn) 13-21, 10-21

The Government has decided to confer, the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award on eminent scientist Prof C.N.R.Rao and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.

Prof. C.N.R. Rao is an eminent scientist and a well recognized international authority on solid state and materials chemistry. He has published over 1,400 research papers and 45 books. Prof. Rao`s contributions have been recognized by most major scientific academies around the world through conferment of memberships and fellowships. He has been honoured with several national and international awards.

Shri Sachin Tendulkar is undoubtedly an outstanding cricketer – a living legend who has inspired millions across the globe. During the last 24 years, since the young age of 16 years, Shri Tendulkar has played cricket across the world and won laurels for our country. He has been a true ambassador of India in the world of sports. His achievements in cricket are unparalleled, the records set by him unmatched, and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by him exemplary. That he has been honoured with several awards is testimony to his extraordinary brilliance as a sportsman.

Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will be given the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, the Prime Minister’s Office has said. In a press release, the PMO said, “Sachin Tendulkar is undoubtedly an outstanding cricketer — a living legend who has inspired millions across the globe. He has been a true ambassador of India in the world of sports”.

Eminent Professor C N R Rao will also be awarded the Bharat Ratna.
Professor Rao “is a well recognised international authority on solid state and materials chemistry. Prof Rao’s contributions have been recognised by most major scientific academies around the world through conferment of member.

Great fanfare for the little master who deserved the laurels not for game but for his attitude towards the game and his passion and respect for all the cricketers allover the globe tweeted and shared the moments of the master of the game.

With tearful Sachin Tendulkar on Saturday adieu to bring the curtains down on his magnificient career by giving an emotional worded speech to thank his family, coaches, teammates, friends and fans, saying it was hard to believe that his life between “22 yards in the last 24 years” has come to end.

Roll over to control his emotions, Tendulkar at the Wankhede,the crowd listening with apt attention thanks-giving speech every silvery word drew applause.

“Friends please settle down, I’ll get more emotional! It’s hard to believe my wonderful journey is coming to an end,” Tendulkar said immediately after his 200th and final Test which India won by an innings and 126 runs on Saturday.

Handed the microphone at the end of the presentation ceremony, the 40-year-old struggled to keep his composure as he took out a list of people to thank at the end of a remarkable journey.

“I have got a list of people to thank because sometimes I forget,” he joked.

“The first is my father (Ramesh Tendulkar), who passed away in 1999. Without his guidance I wouldn’t be standing in front of you. he said ‘chase your dreams, don’t give up, the path will be difficult.’ I miss him today,” said Tendulkar, who always looked heavenwards after every big knock in memory of his father.

Next in the list was his mother Rajni, who came to watch him for the first time in his farewell match and the other immediate family members.

“I don’t know how she managed a naughty child like me. She just prayed and prayed from the day I started playing the game. For four years I stayed with my uncle and aunt when in school, they treated me like their own son,” he said.

“My eldest brother Nitin doesn’t like to talk much but he said, ‘whatever you do, I know you will give 100 per cent’. My first cricket bat was presented to me by my sister Savita. It was a Kashmir willow. She still continues to fast while I bat,” he said.

“Ajit my brother, We have lived this dream together. He sacrificed his career for me, he took me to (Ramakant) Achrekar sir first. Even last night he called me to discuss my dismissal. Even when I’m not playing we will still be discussing technique. If that hadn’t happened, I would have been a lesser cricketer,” he added.

Tendulkar then thanked wife Anjali for being the best partner that life could have given him.

“The most beautiful thing happened to me when I met Anjali in 1990. I know that being a doctor there was a big career in front of her. When we had a family, she decided that I should continue playing and she took care of the children. Thanks for bearing with me for all the nonsense I’ve said. You are the best partnership that I had in my life,” Tendulkar said as an emotionally-overwhelmed Anjali cried in the presentation area.

Tendulkar’s two kids, son Arjun (14) and daughter Sara (16), were also present at the ceremony and Tendulkar promised them a lion’s share of his time now as reward for being patient when he missed their special days for cricket.

“The two precious diamonds of my life Sara and Arjun. I’ve missed out on several birthdays, holidays, annual days. I know for 14-16 years I’ve not spent enough time with you. But I promise you that the next 16 and the many more after that are yours,” he said.

Tendulkar also thanked his in-laws for, most importantly for letting him marry Anjali! He also did not forget to thank his friends but didn’t name anyone in particular.

“My in-laws – I’ve discussed several things with them. The most important thing they did was to allow me to marry Anjali. So, thank you for that,” he said, lightening the heavy atmosphere surrounding his farewell.

“In the last 24 years my friends have made terrific contributions. They have been with me while I was stressed. They have been with me even at 3am when I was injured. Thanks for being there for me,” he said.

Not to forget his first coach Ramakant Achrekar, who came down to the stadium for the first time to watch him in action, and the BCCI for supporting him.

“My career started when I was 11. I was extremely delighted to see Achrekar sir in the stands. I used to ride on his scooter and play two matches a day. Sir took me along to make sure I played. On a lighter note, Sir never said ‘well played’ because he didn’t want me to be complacent. You can push your luck now, Sir, since I’m not playing cricket anymore,” he joked.

“The BCCI was fantastic from my debut. Thanks to the selectors. You were right with me making sure my treatment was taken care of,” Tendulkar said.

Tendulkar also thanked his fellow cricketers and the support staff, especially the doctors and trainers.

“Thanks to all the senior cricketers who have played with me. We see on the screen Rahul (Dravid), VVS (Laxman), Sourav (Ganguly), Anil (Kumble) who is not here. All the coaches,” he said.

“I know when MS (Dhoni) presented the 200th Test cap, I had a message to the team – I said ‘we are all so proud to be representing the nation. I hope to continue to serve the nation with dignity. I have full faith that you will serve the country in the right spirit’.

“I will be failing in my duty if I didn’t thank the doctors who have kept me fit. Given the injuries I have suffered. They have treated me in odd hours,” he said.

“My dear friend the late Mark Mascarenhas. I miss him. My current management team WSG, for continuing what Mark has done. Someone who has worked closely with me for 14 years is my friend Vinay Nayudu,” he added.

“The media has backed me a lot, since my school days. Even today. Thank you. Thanks to the photographers for capturing those moments.”

In the end, Tendulkar thanked the millions of adoring fans by saying that the chants of ‘Sachin, Sachin’ that resonated in the stadiums would remain with him till the last moment of his life.

“I know my speech has become long. I want to thank people who have flown in from different parts of the world here. I want to thank my fans from the bottom of my heart. ‘Sachin, Sachin’ will reverberate in my ears till I stop breathing,” he said, drawing a deafening applause from the crowd.

Sachin Tendulkar got a memorable gift in his emotionally-charged farewell Test which lasted just about two and a half days as India crushed a hapless West Indies by an innings and 126 runs to complete a 2-0 whitewash in one of the most lopsided contests in recent history.

There was an outpouring of emotions when the moment arrived as a teary-eyed Tendulkar left the playing arena, which he dominated for 24 long years.

Amid standing ovations from his teammates as well as the fans who had thronged the stadium to see the champion for one last time, Tendulkar walked into the sunset of his glittering career.

Starting the day at 43 for three, the West Indies were skittled out for a paltry 187 in their second innings as Pragyan Ojha completed a match-haul of 10 wickets taking his second five-for.

Only seven sessions of play was possible in a Test match in which one of the most respected and celebrated cricketers in the history bid goodbye to the game in front of his home crowd and his family, many of whom watched him for the first time from the stands.

Gauging the emotional atmosphere, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, once the play was extended for 15 minutes after the fall of eighth wicket, introduced Tendulkar to roll his arms for a couple of overs amid deafening cheers from the partisan crowd.

He pitched a googly right, bowled a few loopy half volleys which were cheered by one and all.

He didn’t have much luck like the first Test but it didn’t matter as Dhoni replaced Tendulkar with his frontline spinner Ashwin, who got the ninth wicket of the West Indies innings.

Moment after the final West Indies wicket fell, the Indian cricketers converged around the ‘Man of the Moment’ and handed him a souvenir stump as they came one by one to hug him.

After that a relay ‘Guard of Honour’ was given by Dhoni and his men as Tendulkar walked out of the pitch one final time trying hard to conceal his emotions under the floppy sun hat.

But one could see him wipe a tear off as the West Indies players came down to congratulate the legend on a wonderful career.

Arjun Tendulkar, who was doing the duty of a ball-boy, stood applauding at the boundary line.

Starting with a 8-1 off-side field, Ashwin bowled on Gayle’s pads as he was clipped for three boundaries in a single over by the big-bodied Jamaican.

Marlon Samuels (11) stepped out to a flighted delivery from Pragyan Ojha, only to find that Dhoni had effected the easiest of stumpings.

Gayle also followed suit as he edged a straighter one from Ojha for Dhoni to take a sharp catch.

At 87 for five, there was a fear that the match may well get over even before lunch session as Narsingh Deonarine (0) offered a simple return catch to become Ojha’s fourth victim of the innings and ninth of the match.

However Chanderpaul, playing his 150th Test match offered some resistance in company of Denesh Ramdin (53) as they added 68 runs for the seventh wicket before the veteran padded up one from Ashwin that went straight after pitching. Chanderpaul scored 41 with four boundaries.

Skipper Darren Sammy (1) who had demoted himself in the batting order didn’t fare any better.

Ramdin, however, continued hitting the odd boundaries in between as he reached half-century as wickets fell at the other end.

It was Mohammed Shami, who brought an end with a typical inswinging delivery that brought curtains down on a wonderful career.

It was yet another dismal batting performance from the West Indies as the likes of Gayle, Kieron Powell, Dwayne Bravo, Marlon Samuels and Chanderpaul failed to live upto their expectations for the second time in the match.

Gayle managed to score just 35 off 53 balls on Saturday, his highest in the series, that was studded with four boundaries and a six.

A dashing batsman in the T20 format, Gayle finished the series without a single half century to his name in the four completed innings.

His scores in the series stand as 18, 33, 11, 35. A total of 97 runs in a high-profile series doesn’t do justice to his enormous big-hitting potential.

However Chanderpaul played in his typical manner trying to put up a resistance against the spin twins of Ojha and Ashwin on a track that had considerable wear and tear.

The 50 run partnership between Chanderpaul and Ramdin came off 60 balls.

Ramdin, who was fighting a losing cause, completed his 50 off 60 balls with 10 fours and a six which he hit over deep midwicket off Ashwin’s bowling.

Shane Shillingford (8) hung in there for sometime dangerously and helped Ramdin complete his half-century.

But it was only a matter of time before Shillingford finally got an off-break from Ashwin that turned sharply to trap him plumb in-front.

At 185 for nine, when last man Shanon Gabriel walked in one anticipated a near end to a one-sided Test match.

At 11.47 am, it was Shami, who brought an end with a typical inswinging delivery that breached through Gabriel’s defence, bringing curtains down on a wonderful career.

West Indies team will have some introspection to do before the ODI series comes calling as they have surrendered both the matches without a semblance of fight.

The Caribbean batsmen were below par and the pace attack didn’t have forepower to dismiss the talented Indian batting line-up.

The only bright spot for the Caribbeans has been the performance of Shillingford, who got back-to-back five wicket hauls in the series.

Mizoram Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 142 candidates contesting in the 2013 Mizoram State Assembly Elections. (Detailed reports are attached with this e-mail)

Criminal:

· Candidates with Criminal Cases: Out of the 142 candidates contesting in the 2013 Mizoram Assembly Elections, 3 candidates (or 2%) have declared criminal cases against them.

· Candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: Out of the 3 candidates who have declared criminal cases, 2 have declared serious criminal cases.

· Party wise Candidates with Criminal Cases: 1 of 38 (3%)candidates fielded by ZNP have declared criminal cases against them while 2 out of 31 (6%) candidates from MNF have declared criminal cases in their affidavits.

Financial:

· Crorepati Candidates: Out of the 142 contesting candidates, 75 (53%)are crorepatis.

· Average Assets: The average asset per candidate contesting in the 2013 Mizoram Assembly Elections is Rs.2.31 Crores.

· Party-wise Average Assets: The average asset per candidate for INC(40 candidates) is Rs.2.52 Crores, for 38 ZNP candidates the average is Rs.3.13 Crores, for MNF (31 candidates) it is Rs.2.69 Crores and the average assets ofBJP (17 candidates) is Rs.10.05 Lakhs.

· High Asset Candidates: The top three candidates with highest declared assets are R. Lalawia of ZNP from Serlui Constituency with declared assets worthRs.68.69 Crores followed by K Sangthuama of MNF from Aizawl-West -1 Constituency with assets worth Rs.25.57 Crores and Rinzawna of ZNP from Aizawl-South-2 Constituency with assets worth Rs 12.19 Crores.

· Liabilities: A total of 40 candidates out of 142 analyzed have declared liabilities of Rs.10 Lakhs and above.

· High Liability Candidates: The top three candidates with highest declared liabilities are Chalrosanga Ralte of INC from Lunglei West constituency has declared the highest liabilities worth Rs.2.60 Crores followed by Gogo Lalremtluanga of MNF from Tuivawl constituency with liabilities worth Rs.1.02 Crores and Hmingdailova Khiangte of INC from Tuirial constituency with Rs.1 Crore worth of liabilities.

· Undeclared PAN: 111 out of 142 (78%) candidates contesting in the 2013 Mizoram Assembly Elections have not declared their PAN details.

· Crorepati candidates with no PAN: 52 Crorepati candidates have not declared their PAN details even though they are supposed to provide this information in their affidavits.

AirAsia offers assistance to Philippines typhoon victims with #toPHwithlove campaign

KUALA LUMPUR, 15 November 2013 – AirAsia today announced it will run a donation and relief campaign called ‘To Philippines with Love’ (#toPHwithlove) to benefit the communities affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan, which recently devastated the Philippines. The multi-tiered campaign will include collection of cash donations on board flights and at airports throughout the AirAsia Group network; as well as on the AirAsia Foundation microsite. Free cargo space and free flights for accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs), aid and humanitarian agencies for relief efforts will also be offered in addition to 250,000 free seats for Filipinos abroad (OFWs) to return home.

The public will be able to make online donations on the AirAsia Foundation micrositewww.airasiafoundation.com/typhoonhaiyan. The donation drive will run through 31^stDecember 2013 and the total funds collected on board flights, on ground at the airports, as well as through the online microsite will be channelled towards the Philippine Red Cross for relief efforts that are being carried out in the Philippines.

The AirAsia Group will match the total public collection and this amount will be managed by the philanthropic arm of the airline, AirAsia Foundation – for long term reconstruction efforts to rebuild the communities that were affected by the typhoon. AirAsia Foundation has started discussions with Habitat for Humanity Philippines as well as doctors from the public health service working on relief missions in areas in most need of help.

Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of AirAsia said, “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy. Our own staff and their families in the Philippines have suffered as well, and we will stand by all Filipinos to fight through this test of time to find brighter skies together with the support of the Asean community. The domestic Filipino routes are from Cebu to Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Puerto Princesa; while international routes are from Macau, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Miri into Manila.

Kunal Bhasin registers two-shot win at Digboi

Digboi, Assam, November 16, 2013: Australian Kunal Bhasin fired an even-par-72 in the final round to register a two-shot victory at the IndianOil Servo Masters Golf 2013 at the Digboi Golf Links. His ended with a tournament total of 11-under-277. Om Prakash Chouhan of Mhow claimed second place with a nine-under-279 total.

Kunal Bhasin (67-72-66-72), the overnight leader by one stroke, had a forgettable start to the day as he opened the round with bogeys on the first two holes. His tee shot on the second was plugged in the left bunker as a result of which he missed an up and down. Kunal then made a good up and down from the bunker for birdie on the ninth.

Bhasin suffered a major setback with a double-bogey on the par-3 10^th. The Mumbai-based professional found the green in four shots on the 10^th after a couple of poor chips. The 34-year-old however, came back strongly with birdie conversions from a distance of 10 to 20 feet on the 12^th, 14^thand 15^th. He thus ended the day with a sedate 72 that was good enough to earn him his third title on the PGTI. Kunal has now moved up from 36^th to 14^th place in the 2013 Rolex Rankings.

Kunal said, クth me and Khalin started poorly to allow the others get back into the game. The 20-feet birdie putt on the 12^th turned it around for me as I converted two more long birdie putts after that on the 14^th and 15^th. The birdie on the 12^th gave me the momentum. I was quite confident of my chances from there on. My putter was hot throughout the week. All the hard work I did on improving my game this season has paid off. My confidence soared after I shot an eight-under at Panchkula two months back. That performance helped me raise my game.伯span>

Om Prakash Chouhan (70-75-66-68) climbed from overnight tied fourth to secure the runner-up position after returning a 68 that featured five birdies and a bogey.

Rashid Khan of Delhi and BangaloreⳠChikkarangappa S were in tied third place as both ended the week with matching totals of five-under-283.

Khalin Joshi of Bangalore, who was overnight second, slipped to fifth place after shooting a 78 in the final round that moved his total to four-under-284.

Egypt train collision

Egypt, at least 30 people were killed and 28 others were injured when a train ploughed into a truck and a mini-bus at a railway crossing early this morning. The incident took place near Dahchour area south of the capital Cairo in Giza.The ill-fated mini bus was carrying guests home from a wedding.

The head of the Egyptian Railway Authority Hussein Zakaria said the vehicles had ignored warning lights and chains blocking entry, and tried to drive through the crossing. He told that the bus stormed the crossing, according to initial reports. The train, whose driver survived the crash, continued for almost one kilometer before coming to a halt.

expected to take any Public Office after retirement from CAG in 2002.

It is worst form of Corruption when people like Shunglu forbidden from
taking any public office post retirement at 65 (2002 in case of VK

      My first intervention was – Giving all LICENSES to 4-5 Families is
the Worst Form of Corruption on Earth. Even companies with no

Policies and their Manupulations & Implementations. Allocation of Coal
Blocks for example SASAN UMPP was allocated Coal Blocks having 800
million tones of coal against requirement of 400 million tones.

could cut down corruption by 90% to 95% leaving little margin for

PRESS NOTE FOR SHUNGLU COMMITTEE REPORT

The Planning Commission had appointed a High Level Panel headed by Shri V.K.
Shunglu, former Comptroller & Auditor General in July, 2010 to look
into the financial
problems of State Electricity Boards and to identify corrective steps.
The terms of
reference of this Committee included reviewing the accounts of State
Electricity Boards and State Distribution Companies as on March, 2010
and to project their losses by 2017, reviewing the electricity tariff
and also examining the role of the State Governments, Electricity
Regulatory Commissions and Distribution Companies, assessing system
improvement measures accomplished in distribution of power etc. and
finally, to recommend a plan of action to achieve financial viability
in distribution of power by 2017.

The Shunglu Committee presented its Report to the Deputy Chairman, Planning
Commission on 15th December, 2011. The salient features of the Report
are as follows:

•  The accumulated losses for the preceding 5 years is Rs.1,79,000 crore before
subsidy and Rs. 82,000 crore after subsidy. For the year 2009‐10
alone, the financial loss of all distribution companies is Rs.57,000
crore before subsidy and about Rs.27,000 crore after subsidy.

•  These losses are primarily on account of poor managerial and
operational practices of distribution companies compounded by
irrational tariffs fixed by regulators.

•  The Panel has recommended that the State Electricity Regulatory
Commissions should be made independent financially as well as in their
functioning. Selection of
Chairman and Members of Electricity Regulatory Commissions needs to be
fine tuned and further, their functioning should be scrutinized by an
Expert Group in order to determine to what extent the Commissions have
discharged their statutory duties like timely and regular revision of
tariffs.

•    The Panel has suggested that in areas where losses are high, a
loss surcharge should be imposed over and above the basic tariff.

•    Losses of Discoms have been financed by commercial banks
substantially and a large part of such loans have been guaranteed by
the State Governments. The
Report has suggested that subject to the State Government and its
utilities agreeing to and implementing a set of measures listed in the
action pan, these loans could be suitably rescheduled. In case of
failure to meet the rescheduled obligations, such assets should be
taken away from the banks and placed with the Special Purpose Vehicle
(SPV) to be set up for the purpose. The SPV should be owned by the
Reserve Bank of India and shall be empowered to suitably deal with the
defaulting utilities/State Governments including debiting of State
Government accounts.

•    Some other important recommendations include introducing input
based franchise models in about 255 more towns as listed in the
Report, cautious use of Section 108 of the Electricity Act, 2003
relating to issue of Policy directions and proper energy accounting of
all consumers.

V K Shunglu gets SC judge status to probe CWG mess

NEW DELHI: Government has conferred the status of a Supreme Court
judge on V K Shunglu, head of the two member high-level probe
committee, to go into the alleged financial irregularities in the
Commonwealth Games with greater authority.
The order enhancing the status of Shunglu, a former Comptroller and
Auditor General, was issued by the the Cabinet Secretary, which also
provides for the member Shantanu Consul, to enjoy the status of
Secretary to the Government of India.

Consul, who retires this week end from the government as Secretary,
Department of Personnel and Training, will join the HLC as its member,
after October 30.

The committee will have the authority to summon officials, inspect
records, call evidence and to look into all the official documents
pertaining to the mega sporting event that came under sharp focus
following allegations of massive corruptions.

Sources said that the Shunglu panel has been given a "free hand" to
decide its course of action including probe procedure, manpower
requirements and appointments of advisers and counsels to further
investigations.

They said the Ministry of Sports has been asked to extend all possible
support to the Committee, set up by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
on October 15 to investigate the scam and submit its report within
three months.

The committee will examine the "weaknesses in management, alleged
misappropriation, irregularities, wasteful expenditure and wrongdoing
in the conduct of the Games and recommend action".

It would also probe the issues relating to the effectiveness of the
organisational structure and governance for organisation, preparation
and conduct of the Games at all levels, including the Organising
Committee and its key functional areas.

The Committee will also probe the role of international or national
advisors / consultants /officials of the Organising Committee in
conducting the Games.

The Shunglu panel will also consider any complaint from public, duly
supported by documents, concerning the conduct of the Games.

2.        Sardar Sarovar Project:
The Sardar Sarovar Project is an inter-State multi-purpose project on
the river Narmada in Gujarat. It is a joint venture between the States
of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. Although the
Project was originally envisaged in the year 1946, due to the dispute
regarding sharing of waters of the Narmada among the co-basin States,
its implementation could not be initiated. Under the Inter-state Water
Disputes Act, 1956, Narmada Water Dispute Tribunal (NWDT) was,
therefore, set up in 1969 to adjudicate on the dispute relating to
sharing of water of the inter state river Narmada and its valley. The
NWDT, considering the development of the water resources of the basin
as a whole, gave its award in 1979 allocating share of Water of
Narmada and Power of Sardar Sarovar Project as under:

Clause IX - Regulated Releases to be made by Madhya Pradesh for the
Requirement of Sardar Sarovar Project

With regard to the quantum and pattern of regulated releases, the
Tribunal makes the following Order :-

It has been agreed by the party States and decided by the Tribunal in
its Order dated 8th October, 1974, that the utilisable quantity of
water of 75 per cent dependability in the Narmada at Sardar Sarovar
Dam site should be assessed at 28 MAF (34,537.44 M.cu.m.) The actual
inflow of 75 per cent dependability, however, is only 33,316.29
M.cu.m. (27.01 MAF) and this is brought up to utilisable quantity of
28 MAF (34,537.44 M.cum.) by means of carryover in various reservoirs
allowing for evaporation losses and regeneration. Out of 28 MAF
(34,537.44 M.cu.m.), 11,101.32 M.cu.m. (9MAF) has to be provided for
Gujarat and 0.5 MAF (616.74 M.cu.m.) for Rajasthan at Sardar Sarovar.
The requirements at Sardar Sarovar have to be met by releases by
Madhya Pradesh and by inflows from the intermediate catchment,
surplus to the requirements of Madhya Pradesh below Narmada Sagar and
Maharashtra. The releases from Maheshwar work out to 10,015.86 M.cu.m.
(8.12 MAF). Making uniform monthly releases the amount of water to be
released by Madhya Pradesh per month would be 834.65 M.cu.m. (0.677
MAF). The actual inflow in the river system, however, would vary from
year to year and, therefore, the releases by Madhya Pradesh would also
vary.

Nicolas Maduro granted wide powers

Venezuela’s National Assembly given President Nicolas Maduro enough special wide powers to rule by decree for one year so that he can fix the economy.

Tuesday’s vote over the Enabling Law is the latest move by the elected Venezuelan leader, a protégé of the late President Hugo Chavez, to strengthen his hand as he faces an important political test in municipal elections next month.The decree will essentially allow Maduro to create laws without parliamentary approval.

He says he needs greater personal power to stamp out opponents who are waging “economic warfare against his government” as the country struggles with soaring inflation and shortages of basic goods.

Enabling Law, proposed by Maduro in October and immediately enacted by the president following the approval, is designed to make it easier for the executive branch to fight corruption and implement economic measures, such as price control.

“The Enabling Law is approved,” President of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, said Tuesday after the final congressional debate on the bill.

“I sign the law in the name of (former president Hugo) Chavez, I sign it in the name of the Venezuelan people,” said Cabello.

The law was initially approved last Thursday in the lower house, with 99 votes in favor and 60 against.

During the debate, ruling party Deputy Gladys Requena said there is a sector of the country that wants to wage an “economic war” on the majority of the people.

“This law seeks to strengthen the fight against corruption, taking and assuming the state’s function, as established in article 112 of the Constitution. In the streets, our people are supporting us because the reasons are clear. We have to fight against the economic war to the death,” said Requena.

“Maduro has to tackle an economy in free fall,” media reports from the Venezuelan capital Caracas, said.

“People are really struggling to buy normal household goods.” Over the weekend, Maduro used his existing authority to make retail appliance stores slash prices, sending troops to keep order among the crowds that quickly formed.

Venezuelan unit of General Motors was fined the equivalent of $85,000 on Tuesdsay for allegedly overcharging and practising “usury” in the sale of car parts to local concessionaires.

The government also asked Twitter to take down accounts of users posting the illegal black market exchange rate for the country’s bolivar currency, which is trading at about one-tenth of the official value.

These measures have rallied Maduro’s working-class base and even won approval from some government opponents who have joined the long lines outside appliance stores nationwide for the past 10 days in search of deep discounts on TV sets and refrigerators.

The deep discounts of as much as 60 percent – which Maduro has said would be extended to toys, cars and clothing - come as workers cash their year-end pay bonuses, allowing them to make purchases that might otherwise have been out of reach.

The country has been repeatedly battered by a 54 percent inflation rate, a shortage of hard currency and basic goods.

Critics, however, blame Venezuela’s economic hardship on the government-imposed fixed exchange rate and price controls which they say have led to a shortage of basic goods such as rice and meat.

The vote to approve the so-called Enabling Law had been widely expected after Maduro garnered the two-thirds support he needed, or 99 votes, during a preliminary debate last week.

The move added to the opposition’s speculation that this was a thinly veiled power grab.

After Tuesday’s vote, Diosdado Cabello, the National Assembly president, led a march of more than 2,000 supporters from the legislature to the presidential palace to deliver the text of the decree law to Maduro.

Addressing a crowd smaller than the ones Chavez was accustomed to drawing, Maduro reiterated a pledge to use his expanded powers to keep prices low across industries and limit profit margins to 30 percent.He pledges to start 2014 with a frontal attack on corruption.

“They underestimated me; they said Maduro was an amateur,” he told the crowd. But “what you’ve seen is little compared to what we’re going to do”.

The legislative process leading up to Tuesday’s vote was marred by controversy after an opposition congresswoman was stripped of her immunity from prosecution over corruption charges, allowing for her substitution by a pro-government legislator who gave Maduro the crucial 99th vote needed to prevail.Media reports

Analysis of Financial background of Contesting Candidates and Asset Comparison of Re-Contesting MLAs from Major Parties Contesting in the Madhya Pradesh 2013 Assembly Elections

Summary and Highlights

Madhya Pradesh Election Watch (MPEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of candidates from three major political parties (INC, BJP and BSP) in the Madhya Pradesh State Assembly Elections. A total of 2583 candidates filed affidavits with the ECI among whom 686 candidates were from the above three major parties. Out of these 686 candidates, 683 were analysed. Only those parties which are contesting in more than 200 constituencies are considered for this report. (English and Hindi versions of the detailed reports are attached with this e-mail)

Note: Affidavits of Kailash Vijayvargiya (BJP), Uday Prakash Mishra (INC) and Vijay Singh Chouhan (BSP) have not been analysed due to issues in their affidavits like missing pages, annexures etc

Financial:

· Crorepati Candidates: Out of the analysed 683 contesting candidates, 350 (51%) are crorepatis.

· Average Assets: The average asset per candidate contesting in the 2013 Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections isRs.3.38 Crores. The average asset per candidates for these 3 political parties in 2008 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections was Rs.1.07 Crores.

· Party-wise Average Assets: The average asset per candidate for BJP (229 candidates) is Rs.4.04 Crores, for 228INC candidates the average is Rs.5.33 Crores and the average assets of BSP (226 candidates) is Rs.76.62 Lakhs in 2013 Assembl elections. The average asset per candidate for BJP, INC and BSP in 2008 Assembly elections were Rs.1.05 Crores,Rs.1.59 Crores and Rs.57.29 Lakhs.

· High Asset Candidates: The top three candidates with high declared assets are Sanjay Pathak of INC from Vijayraghavgarh Constituency with declared assets worth Rs.121.32 Crores followed by Chetan Kashyap of BJP from Ratlam City Constituency with assets worth Rs.120.29 Crores and Satyanarayan Patel of INC from Depalpur Constituency with assets worth Rs 70.96 Crores.

· High Liability Candidates: The top three candidates with highest declared liabilities are Sanjay Pathak of INC from Vijayraghavgarh constituency has declared the highest liabilities worth Rs.48.70 Crores followed by Surendra Patawa of BJP from Bhojpur constituency with liabilities worth Rs.34.49 Crores and Dr.Mohan Yadav of BJP from Ujjain South constituency with liabilities worth Rs.5.11 Crore.

· Undeclared PAN: 143 (21%) out of 683 candidates contesting in the 2013 Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections have not declared their PAN details.

· High Income Candidates: Sanjay Pathak of INC from Vijayraghavgarh constituency has declared the highest income of Rs.8.94 Crores in the last Income Tax Returns (ITR) filed for the year 2012-13 followed by Sanjay Sharma of BJP from Tendukheda constituency with total income of Rs.3.44 Crores and Alok Chaturvedi of INC from Chhatarpur with an income of Rs.1.73 Crores for the financial year 2012-13.

Summary of asset comparison of re-contesting MLAs

· MLAs Contesting Again: Madhya Pradesh Election Watch (MPEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms have analyzed 141 outgoing MLAs who are contesting again in the 2013 Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections.

· Average Assets in 2008 Elections: The average asset of these 141 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various parties in 2008 was Rs 1.70 Crores.

· Average Assets in 2013 Elections: The average asset of these 141 re-contesting MLAs in 2013 is Rs 5.81 Crore.

· Average Asset growth in 5 years (2008-2013): The average asset growth for these 141 re-contesting MLAs, between the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections of 2008 and 2013 is Rs 4.11 Crores.

· Percentage growth in 5 years (2008-2013): Average percentage growth in assets for these 141 re-contesting MLAs is 242%.

· Highest growth In Assets in 5 years (2008-2013): Sanjay Pathak of INC from Vijayraghavgarh constituency has declared maximum increase in assets with an increase of Rs 87.15 Crore i.e from Rs 34.17 Crores in 2008 to Rs. 121.32 Crores in 2013. Assets of K.P.Singh Kakkajoo (of INC from Pichhore constituency) have increased by Rs 49.23 Crores, from Rs 11.48 Crores in 2008 to Rs 60.72 Crores in 2013. Assets of Satyanarayan Patel of INC from Depalpur constituency have risen by Rs 40.95 Crores, from Rs 30.01 Crores in 2008 to Rs 70.96 Crores in 2013.

· Asset decrease in 5 years (2008-2013): 4 BJP MLAs have reported decrease in assets in 2013 as compared to their assets in 2008. Among them the highest decrease has been shown by Arvind Bhadoriya (49% decline in assets, Rs 1.45 Crores in 2008 to Rs 74.26 Lakhs in 2013) from Ater constituency followed by Deepak Joshi (10% reduction in assets, from Rs 40.94 Lakhs in 2008 election to Rs 36.82 Lakhs in 2013) of from Hatpipliya constituency. Balkrishna Patidar from Khargone constituency has shown 9% reduction in his assets (from Rs 3.84 Crores in 2008 election to Rs 3.51 Crores in 2013) while assets of Jagannath Singh from Chitrang constituency declined by 8% (from Rs 68.12 Lakhs in 2008 election to Rs 62.56 Lakhs in 2013).

With regard to the attack on a lady at Bangalore on 19^th November at Corporation Bank ATM, The General Manager in-charge of Bangalore of the Bank would like to state as follows.

2] The Bank has provided security measures of CCTV to all its ATMs. Immediately after knowing incident the Bank officials rushed to the spot and CCTV report was made available to the police and the media. We are sure with this CCTV report the culprit will be traced out shortly by the authority. We are co-operating and providing information to the authority as and when they call for.

3] Incidentally the victim happened to be our own employee. Our Bank officials immediately came into action and extended all support and medical attention to the victim. She was immediately admitted to a well equipped Hospital in the city.

4] We are constantly in touch with the victim, her family members, and also the Doctors treating her. Our senior officials including me are frequently visiting her in the Hospital to ensure care and all help.

5] Bank is ensuring all measures for ATM security. In the light of this incident we will further strengthen the security and take appropriate steps required in this direction.

‘Helen’ hits AP coast; no casualty so far

Cyclone ‘Helen’ on Friday made a landfall on Andhra Pradesh coast with wind speed of around 100 kilometers per hour. The landfall occurred at around 12:30 pm in Machhalipatnam of Krishna district in the state.

The cyclone continued to batter the area till 2 pm. No casualty has been reported however power has been disrupted due to damages to the transmission lines. The electric poles have been uprooted in many places.

The cyclone is now moving westward towards Kolluru and Tenali. The cyclone has brought heavy to very heavy rains in the Krishna district and its nearby districts.

Andhra Government has made arrangements of relief camps wherever required and to evacuate people to safety. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy himself reviewed the situation in the morning.

He has directed Chief Secretary P K Mohanty to closely monitor the situation with Collectors as the severity of the cyclone was at high side and asked them to be on high alert to face any eventuality.

Earlier Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the situation with Chief Secretary P K Mohanty on Friday morning and asked the official machinery to be fully geared up to evacuate people from low-lying areas to prevent casualties.

The Chief Minister spoke to collectors of East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts over phone and asked to them open relief camps wherever required and evacuate people to safety.

He wanted the district administrations to co-ordinate with National Disaster Response Force, police and other departments in the rescue and relief operations.

Meanwhile, the Indian Coast Guard has despatched its ship Avantibai to rescue 20 fishermen from East Godavari district trapped in the rough sea.

A Chetak helicopter of the Navy is also being pressed into service for the rescue operation, the Navy informed the General Administration department in Hyderabad.

“Our Chetak embarked Vishwast for strategic launch. We also requested for twin-engine helicopter launch,” the Navy informed the GAD.

The cyclonic storm, located over west-central Bay of Bengal, is expected to cross Andhra Pradesh coast near Machilipatnam in Krishna district by Friday evening and affect three other districts–Guntur, West and East Godavari.

Under its influence, rainfall at most places, heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy rainfall (25cm or more) would occur over coastal Andhra during the next 48 hours, an official bulletin said on Thursday.

Also, rainfall would occur at most places in Rayalseema and Telangana regions on 22nd and 23rd November.

Storm surge of up to 1.5 metre high above astronomical tide would inundate low-lying areas of Guntur, Krishna, West and East Godavari districts at the time of landfall, it said.

Squally winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph would prevail along and off south Andhra Pradesh coast.

The wind speed would gradually increase up to gale wind speed of 100-110 kmph, gusting to 120 kmph at the time of landfall over Guntur, Krishna, East and West Godavari districts.

Sea condition will be rough to very rough along and off central and northern parts of Andhra Pradesh coast.

The cyclonic storm is expected to cause extensive damage to thatched roofs and huts, minor damage to power and communication lines, it said.

The bulletin advised suspension of fishing operations and evacuation of coastal hutment dwellers to safer places and asked people in vulnerable areas to remain indoors.

Last month, Phailin, a severe cyclonic storm, had hit Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, killing over two dozen people and causing massive damage to property and crops.

The East Godavari district administration fully geared itself up on Thursday to face the threat from Cyclone Helen and declared a school holiday for Friday.

Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad said that the district administration is fully geared to face Cyclone Helen.

“We will monitor the situation tonight and take all precautionary measures to prevent human and property loss to the district due to the cyclone,” she said.

All special officers and zonal level officers have been directed to monitor the situation and evacuate people in the night after assessing the situation.

All schools in the coastal area will remain closed on Friday and road traffic on the Uppada beach has been suspended, the collector said, adding that irrigation officials and other department officials have been directed to monitor water levels at various tanks, rivers, roads and electricity sub-stations in the district.

BASIC nations ask developed world to fulfil their commitment

Talking tough, a powerful group of countries on climate change, including India and China, today asked the developed world to fulfil their mitigation commitments towards affected nations to deal with the issue of global warming. “We hear allegations from the other side.

Let me make very clear we came here to talk. We came here to negotiate. We came here to a successful cooperation for the negotiation,” Brazil’s lead climate diplomat Ambassador Jose Marcondes de Carvalho told reporters at the venue of UN Climate Change Conference in Warsaw.

“We did not come here to start a blame game. We want to move ahead. Our position is very clear. We need a science- based agreement,” he said in a joint press conference in which top environment officials from BASIC nations – Brazil,South Africa, India and China – including Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan, were present.

The scientific reason for the global warming facing today is because of the “historic emission” by the developed nations and not because of the emerging economies, Carvalho said.

Addressing a press conference earlier, Natarjan said: “There is an urgent and pressing need for developed countries to take the lead in combating climate change under the convention by fulfilling their mitigation commitments as also their commitments towards developing countries for provision of financial resources, development and transfer of technology and capacity building, for the implementation of mitigation and adaptation actions by developing countries.”

The Minister, who arrived here yesterday to attend the high-level ministerial session of the UN Climate Change Conference, said India has taken part in the UNFCCC negotiations in a constructive manner keeping in mind the need to strengthen the Convention, ensure implementation of decisions and enhance action to achieve high ambition levels both in the pre-2020 and the post-2020 period.

With the Warsaw Climate Conference entering into its final stage of its negotiations, the developing countries including India and China are upset with the fact that the developed economies are not fulfilling its commitment made on the issue of financial resources, development and transfer of technology and capacity building.

Natarajan said the non-capitalisation of Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a matter of serious concern and threatens the credibility ofthe global negotiation process.

The GCF is a new multilateral fund that was agreed by parties at the 2010 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change conference in Cancun, Mexico. “What is wrong with the GCF is that there is no money in it. We call it empty shell.

And the promises and pledges that have been made (by the developed world) have not been fulfilled. It is a very serious matter for the future of climate change talks,” Natarajan said in response to a query.

The BASIC nations said till now, no road map has been agreed to by developed countries to mobilise USD 100 billion annually by 2020 as agreed in Cancun.

UNSC reform process cannot go on infinitely: India

India has made a strong call to reform the UN Security Council, stressing that the process to expand the powerful body cannot goon infinitely and a results-based timeline is crucial to achieve a concrete outcome.

“The process of bringing about UNSC reforms cannot be seen to be an exercise ad infinitum. A results-based timeline is imperative, and those who ask for not imposing artificial timelines may be advised to desist from inflicting artificial delays on this process,” India’s Ambassador to the UN Asoke Kumar Mukerji said on the Annual Report of the UN Security Council at the General Assembly on Thursday.

With the 70th anniversary of the United Nations scheduled to be commemorated in 2015 development agenda, Mukerji said it is important that the nations deliveron the most important unfinished mandates which is early reform of the Security Council.

“Indeed, while all other mandates…have been fulfilled or remain work in progress, it is only this which remains ‘work without any progress’, still stuck where it was in 2005. This is an unacceptable interpretation of the words ‘early reform’ unanimously argued to by all Members of the United Nations eight years ago,” he said.

Of the nearly 90 countries that had spoken at a previous General Assembly session on UNSC reforms, 58 nations had asked for expansion in permanent and non-permanent categories of membership.

Another 26 member states had explicitly asked for concrete outcomes by 2015 while 23 delegations supported commencing text-based negotiations.

Mukerji said for a more credible, legitimate and Representative Council, a comprehensive reform, including expansion in permanent and non-permanent categories, and improvement in its working methods, is essential.

“I urge you to act on this collective call made by such a large number of states from this very podium. You have the full support of the overwhelming majority of this assembly to steer your own initiative towards its logical culmination and commence the Inter-Governmental Negotiations immediately on the basis of a text,” he said.

On the issue of counter-terrorism, Mukerji noted that the Council has endorsed a policy of “zero tolerance” towards terrorism, which implies that “no cause orgrievance”, including so called root causes, can be used to justify terrorism.

He extended India strong support towards global efforts to strengthen international and regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Referring to the issue of peacekeeping, Mukerji said nations should ensure that threats to peacekeepers from non-government forces or militias are deterred.

He lamented that while the Security Council has asked for apprehending those responsible for killing UN peacekeepers, “not much has happened to ensure this so far.”

“We call for visible steps to be taken by the Council to prosecute and bring to justice those who attack peacekeepers within a determined time frame. The Council has to use its authority to effectively deter non-government forces or militias, which threaten both the UN peacekeepers, and, as importantly, the civilians who these peacekeepers are protecting,” he added.

Mukerji said that it is imperative to ensure immunity of UN peacekeepers from prosecutions in order to ensure that they discharge their duty smoothly.

UN India further expressed full support to an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled process of peace and reconciliation.

Setting up of BRICS Development Bank in pipeline: PM

Confident about India and other BRICS countries’ emergence as global ‘economic powerhouses’, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said that agreements are in the pipeline for setting up of a BRICS Development Bank and a contingency reserve arrangement for the benefit of five nations.

Stressing on a need for greater economic and political coordination among BRICS — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — Singh also said these countries face common challenges, such as those emanating from global uncertainties.

“Monitoring and managing speculative capital flows is a challenging task in times of global uncertainty,” Singh said while addressing the third BRICS International Competition Conference.

“Maintaining a sustainable fiscal policy, while incurring significant public expenditures to raise the standards of living of a large population, is also a task that we have to grapple with continuously,” he added.

“Developing infrastructure at a pace that supports the growth of industry and the increasing aspirations of the people is yet another challenge before us. Last, but by no means least, there is the need for building credible institutions for sustained and equitable growth,” Singh said.

The Prime Minister said that BRICS has created structures for cooperation at different levels, in various areas and “two of the most significant agreements in the pipeline are those that will result in the setting up of a BRICS Development Bank and a Contingency Reserve Arrangement.”

Singh said the BRICS countries have chosen differing growth paths suited to their macroeconomic conditions and varied institutional strengths.

“Yet, I have no doubt that their emergence as economic powerhouses is now an inescapable secular trend which will have a powerful impact on the world,” he added.

Venezuela accuses US of interference in its internal affairs

Venezuela has accused the US of “interference” in its “internal affairs” in order “to destabilize” it after Washington reacted to President Nicolas Maduro being granted powers to rule by decree, saying “that doesn’t make it okay.” Venezuelan the Foreign Ministry declared its “most profound, categorical and energetic rejection” of the US’ comments. On Tuesday the National Assembly gave Maduro broad powers to wage an“economic war,” combat corruption and promote “economic order in transition to socialism.”

$48 mn worth of cocaine found on Japanese beach

Four backpacks containing 80 kilograms of cocaine, worth 4.8 billion yen ($48 million), were found on a beach near the Japanese city of Yokosuka. The drugs, divided into 78 packets wrapped in paper and plastic, were discovered by a resident on Nov. 19. Police said they believe the packs were thrown overboard after a drug deal failed at sea, and described the drugs haul as the country’s biggest ever.

Saudi police arrest 2 men for offering ‘free hugs’

Saudi religious police has arrested two men who were offering “free hugs” to strangers in the country’s capital, Riyadh. The arrests were made by Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the main Tahlia Street, where the young men were standing with banners saying, “Free Hug,” written in English. The idea of the Free Hugs Campaign, a movement in which members offers free hugs to passers-by in public places “to brighten up their lives,” has provoked a mixed reaction in Saudi society.

Merkel backs German minimum wage of 8.50 euro an hour

Germany will introduce a national minimum wage of 8.50 euros per hour, Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced. Though the Chancellor’s own Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is against the move, saying it may destroy jobs, the opposing party, the Social Democrats (SPD) is strongly demanding this bill, which is a key part of its election platform. The two parties are now in tough negotiations about forming a coalition government. Without the minimum wage, the SPD has said it will not cooperate with the CDU. Merkel said she is prepared to compromise as “the SPD will not conclude negotiations without a universal legal minimum wage.”

3 women rescued in London after ‘decades of slavery’

British police have rescued three women from a house in south London where they have been held as slaves for 30 years, BBC News reports. A Malaysian woman, 69, an Irish woman, 57, and a British woman, 30, were all freed by the Metropolitan Police’s Human Trafficking Unit. The investigation comes after the Freedom Charity Organization contacted police, saying they had received a phone call from a woman who “had been held against her will in a house in London for more than 30 years.” A man and a woman, both 67, were arrested in suspicion of domestic slavery, police said, adding that the rescued women were “highly traumatized.”

Former IRA bomber pleads guilty to aiding terror attacks

Former IRA bomber Marian ‘Price’ McGlinchey was found guilty of buying the mobile phone used by the Real IRA in attack on Massereene Army barracks in 2009. The phone was used in several calls for the attacks in which two sappers Mark Quinsey and Patrick Azimkar were shot dead as they took a pizza delivery at the front of the County Antrim barracks on March 7, 2009. McGlinchey was also accused of encouraging support for terrorism, as she was holding a piece of paper for a masked man during his speech against Catholic police officers at a splinter Republican protest in Londonderry. Forty years ago, McGlinchey was charged with taking part in an IRA car bombing on London’s Old Bailey, in which more than 200 people were injured.

25,000 leave homes in South India as cyclone approaches

About 25,000 people have been evacuated from coastal villages in southern India as a strong cyclone approaches from the Bay of Bengal. The cyclone is expected to hit four districts of the Andhra Pradesh state on Friday with wind speeds of up to 110 kilometers per hour, AP reported. A storm surge of up to 1.5 meters and heavy rainfall are expected to flood low-lying areas, India’s Meteorological Department said Thursday.

US drone strike kills 3 Afghan militants, 2 others in Pakistan

A suspected US drone killed five people in a rare missile strike in northwest Pakistan outside the remote tribal region on Thursday, AP reported. The missiles hit an Islamic seminary in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s Hangu district. Those killed included three senior Afghan militants, and one of them was a deputy of the leader of the Afghan Haqqani network, officials said. It was only the second drone attack outside the semi-autonomous tribal region along the Afghan border since the strikes began in the country in 2004.

Ukraine govt suspends preparation for EU agreement

The Ukrainian government on Thursday decided “to suspend the preparations to concluding an association agreement between Ukraine… and the European Union, the European Atomic Energy Community and their member countries,” Itar-Tass reported, citing the government’s resolution. President Viktor Yanukovych insisted at a news conference in Vienna on Thursday that Ukraine would continue on the path toward integration with Europe, however. “We are not afraid of difficulties and we will go on the path of European integration,” he said.

25 dead in Guinea goldmine explosion

Nearly 25 people were killed Wednesday in a gas explosion on an artisanal goldmine in Siguiri province of eastern Guinea, police authorities said on Thursday. Fourteen bodies have already been recovered at the site of explosions and 11 are confirmed missing. However, a police source says that “it’s impossible to survive this kind of accident as the walls of the mine are too narrow.” Though artisanal mining in Guinea, the holder of the West African largest gold reserves, is legal, it is still dangerous. A similar incident killed four people in July.

Bangladesh agrees 77% wage hike for garment factory workers

Bangladeshi authorities have approved a 77 percent salary rise for garment factory workers from December this year. The official wage board has officially increased the monthly minimum wage for garment sector from 3,000 taka ($38) to 5,300 taka ($68). Though the protesters demanded 8,000 taka a month, “the wage board negotiated a compromise which was acceptable to all sides,” said Sirajul Islam Rony, a member of the government appointed committee. The newly approved wage system includes allowances for food and medical care. Bangladesh, the world’s second-largest clothing exporter, is trying to end a wave of strikes among country’s garment workers who have been rallying to demand better working conditions and higher salaries.

11 dead as Japan landslide engulfs 5 road workers

Five Japanese road construction workers were engulfed by a landslide Thursday with one confirmed dead, authorities said. The crew was repairing a cracked road on a mountainous slope in Yurihonjo city in northern Akita prefecture when the road collapsed, AFP reported. Rescue crews pulled one man’s body from the snow-covered slope while four of his colleagues remain missing.

Car bomb in northeast Iraq kills 25 people

A car bomb exploded in a busy market in northeast Iraq on Thursday, killing at least 25 people, Reuters reported, citing the local mayor and medics. The attack took place in the town of Sadiya, 65 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, amid Iraq’s worst wave of sectarian violence in at least five years.

Ukraine parliament denies Tymoshenko medical treatment abroad

Ukraine’s parliament on Thursday voted against all six bills that would have allowed jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to go abroad for treatment. The move could disrupt the chances of signing an association agreement with the European Union later this month. Deputies from President Viktor Yanukovych’s Party of Regions and the Communist Party abstained from voting, and all six bills gained no more than 195 votes, short of the required 226 voting majority, Itar-Tass reported. Vladimir Oleinik, a Party of Regions deputy, said that the parliament may yet convene for an extraordinary session to amend and pass the legislation.

Two Russians freed on bail in Greenpeace case leave detention center

Photographer Denis Sinyakov and a member of the Greenpeace press service, Andrey Allakhverdov, who were detained after a protest at the Russian oil development platform Prirazlomnaya in the Pechora Sea, left a detention center in St. Petersburg on Thursday. They are the first members of the Arctic Sunrise crew to be released after being granted $61,300 bail each. Sinyakov said that in the coming days, he will try to recover his photographic equipment. Allakhverdov said: “Greenpeace has never been and will never be an extremist organization,” Interfax reported.

‘No trust’ between Afghanistan, US

Afghan President Hamid Karzai told a meeting of elders in Kabul on Thursday that he did not trust the US, and it did not trust him. “My trust with America is not good. I don’t trust them and they don’t trust me,” Reuters quoted the president as saying. “During the past 10 years I have fought with them and they have made propaganda against me,” he said. Debt levels of Syrian refugees in Lebanon are spiraling out of control, pushing entire families into a cycle of grinding poverty, an international aid agency has warned. Oxfam said in a report released Thursday that refugee families in Lebanon are spending more than twice their monthly average income of $250. Many families have exhausted their savings and have resorted to borrowing money. Six mortar shells reportedly landed near a remote Saudi border post close to Iraq and Kuwait on Wednesday.“Six mortar shells fell in an uninhabited area near the new al-Auja border guard center of Hafr al-Batin in the Eastern province,” Reuters quoted General Mohammed Ghamdi, the border guard media spokesman, as saying on Thursday. The attack caused no damage, he said.

US political contributions by fracking industry increases by 231 pct. between 2004-2012

Contributions to congressional campaigns by the fracking industry experienced a 231 percent increase between 2004 and 2012, according to a new report. That percentage increase represents an uptick from $4.3 million to just under $12 million in that time span. The campaign funds were seen within districts and states hosting fracking activity, along with a 131 percent increase to politicians representing regions without hydraulic fracking operations. The data, compiled by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington based its report on campaign contribution data available through MapLight. Nearly 80 percent of total funds doled out by the gas industry were directed towards Republicans. According to the survey, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) received the most contributions, collecting $509,447 between his 2004 and 2012 elections. Barton is a former chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Oakland City Council decides to press ahead with citywide surveillance center

The Oakland City Council voted early Wednesday to continue with plans to build a 24-hour surveillancecenter funded by over $10 million in federal grants. The City Council decided by a vote of 6-1 to sever ties with the firm formerly chosen to complete the Domain Awareness Center, a surveillance operation that will enlist 3,000 cameras around the city, among other efforts, in what Oakland says will be a major tool to fight crime. The council will now seek proposals from other firms to finish the project rather than consider shutting it down, the Oakland Tribune reported. The shunned firm was in question based on the city’s law restricting it from doing business with companies that have ties to nuclear weapons. During the hours-long city meeting, opponents of the center verbally sparred with council members, saying the operation will target dissenters and minorities, among other concerns.

American tourist arrested, imprisoned in North Korea – report

North Korea detained an 85-year-old American man last month just as he was about to leave the country on a tourist visa, according to a San Jose Mercury news story that was confirmed by a senior US official. Merrill Newman, a military veteran, was taken off his plane on October 26 after participating in a tour group based in Beijing. North Korean state media has not mentioned the detention but officials in both Beijing and the US confirmed his imprisonment. His arrest comes almost a year after that of Kenneth Bae, who remains locked up. Chinese tour groups are increasingly granted access to Pyongyang, although the US State Department strongly advises Americans against joining such excursions.

Trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the EU will be held before a summit of the EU’s Eastern Partnership in Vilnius due next week, Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov said Friday. The negotiations of the two states and the EU will be dedicated to trade and economic partnership. Azarov described the Ukraine government’s decision to suspend preparations for the signing an association agreement with the EU as tactical, and said it was prompted by exclusively economic reasons. The strategy of integration into Europe remains the same, he added.

S. Korea to buy 40 Lockheed F-35 stealth fighter jets

South Korea will buy 40 Lockheed Martin Corp F-35 stealth fighter jets, the country’s military chiefs decided on Friday. The first delivery expected in 2018, in a move to beef up the country’s defenses, Reuters reported. A Joint Chiefs of Staff meeting agreed that South Korea will buy the most advanced stealth technology and electronic warfare capability. The decision will be put to a committee chaired by the defense minister for final approval. Seoul was initially expected to give the green light to Boeing’s F-15.

Germany puts more paintings stolen by Nazis online

Germany has put more paintings and drawings of artworks stolen by the Nazis online, AFP reported. “The artistic discovery of Schwabing” was transferred to the coordinating panel for lost cultural goods, the culture minister’s office said, referring to the Munich district where 1,406 lost artworks have been found. By around 18:30 GMT, 54 new artworks had been published on the lostart.de website. Of these, 16 were by Norway’s Edvard Munch and 38 by German painter Max Liebermann. The works also include those by the French artist Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.

Latvia mall collapse

Thirty two people dead as 500 square meters of roof caved in at the ‘Maxima XX’ building in the capital, Riga.

The initial collapse was followed by a second cave-in just as the first responders at the scene were helping the victims. Two rescuers were killed by the second collapse.

“We have lost a colleague who died saving the victims from the rubble,” fire department spokeswoman Inga Vetere told reporters.

According to the latest reports, so far rescuers have managed to save 36 people from the rubble. At least one child has suffered a moderate head injury and has been hospitalized along with dozens of victims, Ria reports.

“At least 70 people may still be trapped in the rubble, according to the latest data,” Riga’s mayor Nils Ušakovs said as quoted by RIA Novosti news agency.

Upon hearing about the accident the mayor has cut short his holiday.“Interrupted vacation. Looking now for faster options to return to Riga,” Ušakovs wrote on his Facebook page.

While the cause is currently unknown, Riga Vice Mayor Andry Ameriks refuted earlier eyewitness reports of an explosion and attributed the incident to a likely construction fault.

“Probably, mistakes were made by construction workers, which led to the collapse of the building,”Ameriks said. “The building collapsed completely. Now, all the rescue services are working at the scene. The most important thing now are the lives of the people.”

Rescue operations are still underway with the military personnel assisting, and workers are continuing to look for victims.

A total of 400 people are working at the scene including local and state police, some local home guards and at least 17 units of medics as well as 13 fire brigades. Soldiers of the National Armed Force are also helping look for the victims with dog units. Another 40 soldiers were sent from the army garrison, local media reports. Media agencies

Vietnam offers 6 oil and gas blocks to OVL

Vietnam has offered to give ONGC Videsh Ltd five offshore oil and gas exploration areas in South China Sea and its Kossor block in Uzbekistan without bidding, the Indian company said.
The five blocks offered on nomination basis lie outside the territory claimed by China in the South China Sea. Vietnam’s national oil company PetroVietnam offered Block 17, 41 and 43 while PetroVietnam Exploration Corporation offered blocks 10&11-1 and 102&106/10 and the Kossor block it has in Uzbekistan as Hanoi looks to counter China’s influence in the region. OVL, the overseas arm of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), in a statement said on Thursday, it on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with PetroVietnam for joint cooperation in hydrocarbon sector in Vietnam, India and other countries. “Under the MOU, PetroVietnam has offered 5 blocks (in Vietnam) to ONGC Videsh. ONGC Videsh would assess these blocks and if these are of interest, it would make a proposal to PetroVietnam,” it said. “OVL will study the data on the blocks and has the option to pick and choose from the blocks. It can even take all of them and also has to option not to take any of them,” a top official said. If OVL decides to take any or all of the blocks, a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) will be signed. OVL will carry out evaluation of blocks 17, 41 and 43 on an exclusive basis in next three months. “In the event any block is of interest to OVL, it shall provide PetroVietnam with its proposal for entering into a PSC for such block(s) and to negotiate PSC agreements under the Petroleum Law of Vietnam,” he said. For block 10&11-1 and 102&106/10 and Kossor block in Uzbekistan, OVL shall carry out the evaluation and discuss with PetroVietnam Exploration Corp on terms and conditions for contract farm-in. Hanoi made the offer during delegation level talks with visiting Vietnamese Communist Party general secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Wednesday. OVL already has stake in a gas production block on the southern Vietnamese coast. It also had interest in two exploration blocks – 127 and 128 in the South China Sea, an area which China claims being part of its East Sea. OVL, however, relinquished Block 127 in offshore Phu Khanh Basin after it failed to find any oil or gas in the area. It plans to withdraw from adjacent Block 128 which is under extended exploration phase-1 until 15th June 2014. China claims sovereignty over most of the South China sea where Block 127 and 128 are located and had warned the Indian arm from drilling in the region. OVL continues to own 45 percent in Vietnam’s offshore block 6.1. OVL’s share of production from the fields was 2.1 billion cubic metres and the company had till date invested USD 415 million. “Vietnam is one of the focus countries for ONGC Videsh where it would like to acquire stakes in oil and gas assets depending on techno-commercial viability,” the statement said. OVL is present in Vietnam since 1988 when exploration license for Block 6.1 was acquired. The current non-operating participating interest of OVL in the block is 45 percent which consists of Lan Tay and Lan Do fields. It holds 100 percent operating stake in exploration Block-128 with cumulative investment of more than USD 50 million. “Earlier, OVL also held 100 per cent operating stake in exploration Block-127 and invested about USD 51 million,” the statement added.

FIR against Tarun Tejpal in sexual assault case

Goa Police on Friday filed an FIR against Tehelka Editor Tarun Tejpal, who has been accused by a woman journalist colleague of sexual assault during an event here about 10 days ago.

Deputy Inspector General of Police O P Mishra said the FIR has been filed while DGP Kishan Kumar said the crime branch could send a team of officials to Delhi for further investigation.

“We will go through all the details. We will press rape charges against him, if the complaint of the girl is substantiated,” Mishra said.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had ordered a preliminary inquiry into the allegations by the girl that she was sexually abused by Tejpal during an event in Goa.

The alleged incident happened in a lift in a five star hotel in Goa about 10 days ago.

The DIG said the CCTV footage was received from the hotel last evening and was preserved.

The details of the incident can only be known after examining the footage, he said.

Police have already written to the Tehelka management, asking for the documents including email of the victim and the statement by Tejpal Parrikar had said yesterday that the police were trying to reach to the girl and record her statement.

“We will fully backup the girl if she files the complaint,” the chief minister had said. He had also expressed the possibility of summoning Tejpal after the preliminary inquiry is over.

After the email by the woman journalist of his magazine alleging sexual assault was made public, Tejpal had announced on Wednesday night that he was “recusing” from his job for six months.

NCW asks Goa Police to file FIR in sexual assault case

Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, the National Commission for Women on Friday said it has written to Goa Police to file an FIR in the alleged sexual assault case against Tehelka Editor Tarun Tejpal.

“We have written to Goa Police to take cognizance of the matter and file an FIR against Tarun Tejpal,” NCW member Nirmala Samant Prabhavalkar said on Friday.

She said the NCW member in-charge of Goa, Shamina Shafiq, who is in Mumbai, has spoken to Tehelka Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury and will try to speak to the girl on Friday.

“From her emails that we have read, subject to its authentication, it seems to be more than depriving her of her modesty. It is a serious issue and there seems to be clear violation of Visakha guidelines.

“Though the girl has not approached us personally, she seems to be interested in getting justice, Pravabhalkar had said on Thursday.

NCW has also written to Justice Markandey Katju, Chairman of the Press Council of India requesting him to intervene and examine the matter that whether Visakha guidelines were followed in this matter or not.

Goa government had on Thursday ordered a probe into the alleged sexual assault by Tejpal on a woman journalist colleague.

The alleged incident happened in a lift in a five star hotel in Goa about 10 days ago.

The case was handed over to the Crime Branch of police which has got the footage of the Close Circuit Television in the hotel.

They have also sought the copy of the complaint filed by the girl from Tehelka.

Tejpal had written to Tehelka’s Managing Editor, saying he was “recusing” from work for 6 months admitting to “bad lapse of judgement”.

Before I say anything else, I really, REALLY want to thank all of you who were there with us in spirit and in person on Saturday, November 16th. Quite frankly, your amazing response at the Global Day of Action has been so humbling for all of us. Getting together in 31 cities is no mean feat and for us, this was the first time ever in India. You are one of the 22,386 people from 43 countries to have spoken out for the Arctic 30 and we thank you for that.

This isn’t it. I’ve got some really big news for you. 20 of the Arctic 30 have been given bail this week. Wait. There’s more. Ana Paula from Brazil, the first of the Arctic 30, was even released on bail yesterday.

While this is great news, we can’t celebrate yet. Unlike the others, Colin, an activist from Australia, was denied bail and had his detention extended for three more months. But all of the Arctic 30 still face extremely serious accusations. They could have long wait for a trial, and face years in prison if convicted on these absurd charges.

It’s clear this story is far from over. But we need your help to make sure the world knows that. We must keep fighting to free our friends and bring them home to their families. We must not let up. We need more than bail, we need these ridiculous charges against peaceful activists dropped for good, putting an end to this madness.

School, Old Rajinder Nagar thrash Bal Bharati Public School, Ganga Ram Hospital Marg by 10 wickets in a league match of the Coca-Cola Cricket Cup under-16 inter-school tournament, played at Bharat Nagar ground today.

Bal Bharati Public School won the toss and opted to bat first. However, they failed to materialise the opportunity and the whole team were bowled out at 85. Bharat and Sahil Sharma’s two-wicket hauls helped their team to restrict the opposition in 28.1 overs.

In reply, Salwan Boys School achieved the target in just 6.0 overs. Shivam led the batting line-up with his blistering 74-run knock and remained unbeaten to win the match without losing any wicket.

Two weeks before Delhi votes, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Admi Party has been hit with a sting operation that allegedly shows some of its candidates agreeing to help push property deals and resolve financial disputes in return for cash donations to the party.

One of those targeted by the sting is AAPs high-profile candidate from RK Puram, Shazia Ilmi, a former journalist and vocal activist, who has offered not to contest the elections.

“I will not allow my party’s image to be sullied by the underhand shoddy sting operation. I offer to withdraw my candidature and not contest elections until and unless my name is cleared,” Ilmi said.

Senior AAP leaders were in a huddle soon after the sting was made public at a press conference at Delhi’s Constitution Club on Thursday. They said they would first see unedited footage of the operation and then take action within 24 hours. They have demanded the full video footage by 11 am today.

The sting was conducted by a website called Mediasarkar, which alleged at its presser that while no criminal offense may be made out, it raises a moral question since AAP has based its campaign on clean politics. It, however, refused to say which political party had helped it book a conference hall at the club, which requires a member of Parliament to make a booking.

Earlier this week, when year-old videos of veteran activist Anna Hazare raising concerns over the funding of AAP emerged, party leaders accused the Congress and BJP of conspiring to undermine Mr Kejriwal.

India News, Media Sarkar Sting Operations reveal Arvind Kejriwal,
AAP’s tainted side!

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which claims
of receiving money for the election campaign in form of donations,
have come under clouds of controversies post a sting operation which
alleged that party has raised funds through illicit means.

The sting operation has been conducted by a media outlet named Media
Sarkar on Thursday.

The sting operation was made on nine different members of AAP
including party’s senior party leader Shazia Ilmi, Dinesh Mohania,
Irfan Ullah Khan and Kumar Vishwas.

The sting operation revealed that how Ilmi accepted bribe to malign
the image of a company without seeking documents of company’s
misdoings. A reporter, who pretended to be a company’s staff, asked
Shazia to smear the image of his rival firm. She was offered a
whopping sum to act likewise.

The video also show Shazia revealing that party (AAP) accepts
donations in cash. She was also found telling ways of taking money
through illegal means.

AAP leader Dinesh Mohania from Sangam Vihar was exposed on camera
vowing to settle a person’s property dispute by applying certain
tricks after winning elections.

Irfan Ullah Khan from Okhla constituency was ready to settle the
reporter’s money dispute by any legal or illegal means.

Meanwhile, the micro-blogging website Twitter is trending a key word
‘India News’, a leading Hindi news channel, which reveals another
sting of AAP conducted by the channel. India News channel alleged AAP
of selling the Badarpur Assembly seat at Rs 2 crore.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led party gave ticket to Narayan Dutt Tiwari
instead of Amrish Choudhury, who topped the list of AAP’s probable
candidates in Badarpur Assembly segment.

AAP reportedly conducted an online voting to choose the party
candidate from the Badarpur Assembly seat. 60 to 70 percent of votes
were in favor of Choudhury but eventually the ticket was given to
Tiwari.

When Choudhury inquired about it by sending a SMS to Arvind Kejriwal —
“How much you took to sell the Badarpur seat?” — Kejriwal replied, “in
Rs 2 crore.”

Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal or any of the Aam Aadmi Party candidates
are unavailable for the comment over the sting operations.

than salary of Accountants and Executives in Gujarat or other states.

Under BJP rule only few Traders prospered and non traders were CRUSHED
– farmers land was acquired in NCR for Rs.2,00,000 per acre – that has
gone up to Rs.2 Crores.

Policies of the UPA I&II ensured prosperity for all whether Rich or
Poor – Urban or Rural inhabitant.

There are Three Main issues with Sheila Dikshit government – Water &
Power and are BJP LUNATIC River Linkers and Pro Trader BJP government
mischief. DELHI RENT ACT 1995 Was Also SABOTAGED BY MADAN LAL KHURANA.

We all knew well in advance that both Tata and BSES charge much higher
tariff in very compact city Mumbai than MSEB serving widespread rural
state region.

Regarding T&D losses – there is clear evidence that T&D losses were
20% in Delhi when Madan Lal Khurana took over and politics within BJP
led to three Chief Ministers serving 5 year tenure in which Electric
Connections were released without planning and metering and T&D Losses
were over 40% – that were manipulated to 45% to 60% on eve of
privatization under CORRUPT DERC. Even in 2005 there were only 3500
Distribution Transformers with Meters out of over 8000. It was
politically institutionalized by BJP.

WATER - Delhi gets only SEWAGE and Drainage as entitlement from
Riparian YAMUNA rivers. All the CROOKS who dug up Himalaya Slopes
triggering land slides across Uttarkhand are disciples of Nana
Deshmukh who failed to develop Chitrakoot.

 Can you believe not a brick is laid at RENUKA, LAKHWAR & VYASI DAM
Sites which are LIFE LINES OF DELHI? – Storage sites for all the Water
Delhi required. Until these dams are built Delhi shall have to depend
on Haryana Sewage and Underground water. Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat
couldn’t be built, Canals operate at 5% Potential.

Collection, Construction, House Tax are all MCD works which is most
corrupt.

lawyers is required to end corruption in public services not JLB to

Qualified Contractors, Quality Control, Strict Monitoring of Works.

3. Already said he has NO ENGINEERING GENES – Delhi need to License
‘ETHICAL, Qualified and Accountable Companies to SERVE CONSUMERS’ –

 He forgets Delhi is poorly served by TELECOM OPERATORS – Broadband,
IPTV, Optic Fiber Based Indigenous Network should replace – Ambani,
Tata, Mital Monopoly.

 Rooftop Solar Power & Heating – Uninterrupted Power Supply, Live
Maintenance of Faults, CORRECT METERS, RESTRICTING LOADS to SELECT 1%
or 2% than ALL CONSUMERS. These shall reduce Electricity BILLS.

4. 7 BCM of water pass through Delhi during Monsoon every year in
absence of Dams is wasted. Building Dams is LONG TERM and desirable
option.
5. All shops, Offices, commercial buildings etc must have operational
toilets for public use free or cost.

6. I don’t know how many times HE HAS Come Out on Streets to Protect
Women. PS to have Local Control Rooms and Quick Response Squads.
Streets should be clear of VENDORS.

7. 90% of the School Children must be enrolled from 1-2 kilometer
radius or Walking Distance – thus Children could spend 1-2 hours more
for studies and sports.

8. Delhi needs Primary Health Centers or Dispensaries for preventing
complications and early recovery. CGHS dispensaries can operate in two
Shifts – one for public servants and second private citizens.

9. Delhi villages shall be RE-MODELLED to Metro City like
Infrastructures – Sewage Lines, Water Supply, Public Trasports etc.

10. 11. Unauthorized Colonies & Slums shall RE MODELLED.

12. INFLATION IS NOT DUE TO GOVERNMENT BUT TRADERS LOOT, HOARDING,
TAKING BANK LOANS FOR MONEYLENDING, OPERATING TRADING MAFIA. DIRECT
FARMERS MARKETS, FARMERS OWN STORAGE AND PROCESSING CUTTING TRADING
FINANCE, BANK CREDIT TO FARMERS MSMEs etc

13. TRADERS shall be required to ISSUE BILLS for Every Transaction
and provide DETAILS in it of Purchase Price and Profit Margin. THIS
SHALL ENSURE 100% TAX COMPLIANCE. They should maintain COMPUTERISED
RECORDS OF STOCKS. Street Vendors shall be allowed for only TWO HOURS
in the morning when MILK Is supplied – No Street Vendor rest of the
day. All Street Vendors shall Displace License Number and Validity.

 THIS SHALL REDUCE ACCIDENTS, TRAFFIC JAMS AND CRIMES.

 This shall DOUBLE Delhi tax revenue and TRIPLE Social Sector Expenditure.

14. Promote Car Pooling, Restrict SUVs in Peak Hours, Triple Bus
Routes, Introduce Mini and Small Buses, replace all manual rickshaws
with Electric Vehicles, METRO parking be reserved for two wheelers and
open RWA main roads for public traffic. METRO services shall be
integrated with Mainline Railways.

15. Streets shall PHOTOGRAPHED everyday for CLEANLINESS. On
completion of Dams 2000 cusecs of water shall be flowing in Yamuna
clearing all pollutants, all Sewage shall pass through Under Ground
Pipes and taken to SEWAGE treatment plants.

 40 Year old Badarpur Power Station will be UP GRADED to LATEST SUPER
CRITICAL 1500 MW Capacity.

16. All Laws to Protect Labor Rights shall be enforced – Shops,
Factories, Offices to Engage Regular Staff and Register Them with
Labor Office. Provide adequate assistance to under privileged and
below poverty line or unemployed citizens. Minorities and weaker
sections, Widows, Senior Citizens to be provided adequate Protection
and concessions.

SHIROMANI AKALI DAL GETS SHOT IN ARM, DELHI PRESIDENT OF MAAN DAL JOINS THE PARTY

New Delhi, November 23

The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) today got shot in the arm as Delhi State President of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Maan Dal) Mr. Sansar Singh joined the party along with his supporters in the presence of party President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Mr. Sansar Singh was Delhi state President of Maan Dal since 2008. He has contested Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee elections 2013 on Maan Dal ticket. This was said to be major boost to Hari Nagar candidate of Shiromani Akali Dal Mr. Shyam Sharma as Mr. Sansar Singh has a mass base in the area.

Welcoming Mr. Sansar Singh and his supporters into party folds, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal said thatpeople were joining Shiromani Akali Dal as party was more sensible to issues of common masses and its leaders were more accessible and easily approachable than any other party. He assured Mr. Sansar Singh that party would give him and his supporters due respect in the party. He said that induction of Mr. Sansar Singh and his supporters in the party would strengthen the party in the Hari Nagar constituency.

Committing to work with their full strength to ensure the record victory of SAD-BJP Candidate, Mr. Sansar Singh said that he and thousands of his supporters would guarantee record margin victory of Mr. Shyam Sharma. He said that he and his supporters joined Shiromani Akali Dal as they were very impressed by pro people policies followed by SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab and they were confident once elected to power alliance would apply same policies in Delhi too.

Prominent amongst others Mr. Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, Senior Vice President SAD, Mr. Gursewak Singh Jawaharke, Mr. Gurpreet Singh Jhabbar, member SGPC and Mr. Charanjit Singh Brar, advisor to Mr. Badal were also present on the occasion.

Philippine typhoon death toll surpasses 5,200

The number of people confirmed killed when a super typhoon devastated the Philippines surpassed 5,200 on Friday, the government said, making it one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters.

The official death toll from the storm jumped by nearly 1,200 to 5,209, with another 1,611 people still missing, the spokesman for the government’s disaster management council, Reynaldo Balido, said.
Super Typhoon Haiyan flattened dozens of towns across the central Philippines on November 8, bringing some of the strongest winds ever recorded and generating tsunami-like storm surges.
Balido said the death toll rose sharply today, increasing from 4,015, after officials reported body counts from communities outside the worst-hit areas.
“If you notice, there was not much movement in the death toll for the past few days. This was because the reporting rules required a casualty report signed by the city mayor and his health officer,” he said.
“Now, the reports are coming in from the entire typhoon area.”
The Philippines endures a seemingly never-ending pattern of deadly typhoons, earthquakes, volcano eruptions and other natural disasters.
It is located along a typhoon belt and the so-called Ring of Fire, a vast Pacific Ocean region where many of Earth’s earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
But Haiyan now stands as one of the deadliest natural disasters ever recorded in the country, and the worst typhoon.
The only other natural disaster to rival Haiyan was a tsunami triggered by a magnitude 7.9 earthquake in 1976 that killed between 5,000 and 8,000 people on the southern island of Mindanao.
More than four million people were displaced, mainly on the poor, farming islands of Samar and Leyte.
The disaster has triggered a giant, international relief effort, with dozens of countries and relief organisations rushing to deliver food, water and health services to isolated communities.
The US military has performed the highest-profile role, while Japan has sent more than 1,000 troops in its biggest deployment since World War II.
China, which is embroiled in a long-running territorial dispute, has also sent a 300-bed hospital ship and relief supplies.
