India’s exports have been on rollercoaster since the global crisis of 2008 and presently passing through the challenging trough on account of several global externalities viz. slowdown in major export markets, US and EU, fall in commodity prices and devaluation of currency by China among others. India ’s exports have witnessed a negative growth rate during the last eleven months in a row registering an average decline of around (-) 16% from December 2014 to October 2015.
The Government of India has recently undertaken several policy measures for the revival of exports including extending the scope of Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS), introducing interest equalization scheme on pre and post shipment rupee export credit for three years at 3% per annum and raising the duty drawback rate by two percentage points for several sectors viz. engineering, marine, leather and textiles among others. However, there is still a need to come up with more suggestions to revitalize the country’s exports which is imperative to strengthen growth of the economy, going forward.
At this backdrop, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry is organizing a seminar on ‘Revitalizing India’s Exports to Strengthen Economic Growth’ at PHD House, New Delhi , to discuss current issues and challenges to India ’s exports and to explore innovative strategies to revitalize the country’s exports in the coming times.
