Today is the World Radio Day. The day is observed every year on the 13th of February to celebrate radio as a forum for entertainment and information, as a bridge of communication for remote communities and its role in empowering people. Addressing a function on the occasion in New Delhi , Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati Jawhar Sircar said that Radio has brought people from all walks of life together. He said All India Radio has immensely contributed to preserve Indian Classical music and Indian languages and dialects. Mr. Sircar stressed on the need to promote community Radio as FM Radio has some limitations.

In his message , UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon said, radio matters for youth across the world and this year's observance of World Radio Day highlights the importance of radio to the world's 1.8 billion young women and men. He said, as the international community shapes new sustainable development goals and a new global agreement on climate change, the world needs to hear the voices of young women and men.
