China will remain world’s largest bottled water market to 2021
The ever increasing thirst for quality water and health-conscious drinking habits will mean that China retains its position as the world’s biggest bottled water market to 2021, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
Growth in disposable income is also expected to help the country’s bottled water market stay ahead of major nations like the US, India, Indonesia and Germany, in terms of volume.
During 2016-2021, GlobalData expects China’s bottled water market to expand at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.42% and lead the global market with 57,903.90 million litres expected to be consumed in 2021 alone.
Per capita consumption of bottled water has been on a steady upswing, from 23.6 litres in 2013 to 29 litres in 2016, and is expected to further rise to 30.8 litres in 2017. This consumption pattern is propelled by the improving quality and fast pace of life, which can be seen to steer consumers towards the use of bottled water over barrels of water. This trend is more evident in urban areas where 57.4% of the population resides. Moreover, the quality of tap water in much of China is not high enough to drink.
Ellen Rivers, Consumer Analyst at GlobalData, says: “Growing purchasing power has seen consumers spending more on high-end products. Factors such as exposure to brands and large-scale marketing have served to tip the scales in favour of premium bottled water.”
This segment has witnessed a huge surge in the last few years – jumping from a meagre 45.7 million litres in 2013 to a whopping 520.6 million litres in 2015.
GlobalData has also found that 74% of Chinese consumers pay more attention to packaging materials and capacity when choosing food and beverages, noticeably higher than the global average of 51% of consumers.
Rivers notes: “Packaging is essential to the perception of consumer satisfaction. Trends show that glass packaging, small packages and PET material will have a decisive impact on purchasing choices in China.”

Dear Naresh, where after all do Universal human rights begin?
Dear Naresh,
“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home…where every man, woman, and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, and equal dignity without discrimination…Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.”
This was the wisdom of Eleanor Roosevelt, a principle architect of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted sixty-nine years ago today. She understood the power of American leadership—she personified it—and she knew that the most effective way to lead is by example—by living our values.
And yet on this Human Rights Day, we are witnessing a stunning abdication by the United States of its historical leadership role in the world, leaving a vacuum that authoritarians and tyrants are rushing to fill. When President Trump cozies up to dictators, alienates our allies, and denies protection to vulnerable refugees, he undermines the international structures and norms that have helped secure American interests for decades.
You and I have a different vision: We know that respect for human rights is not some fuzzy sentiment; it is the foundation of peace, justice, and security.
That’s why today we celebrate the brave and generous men and women like you—veterans, lawyers, corporate leaders, people of faith, activists—all over our country who are working alongside us to protect human rights and defend American ideals.

Thank you!

Israeli strike on Gaza after rocket attacks
Two militants were killed and at least 25 people have been injured, including six children, after the Israeli Air Force bombed alleged Hamas targets inside Gaza. The airstrikes were in retaliation for 3 rocket attacks launched at Israeli territory.
“In response to the projectiles fired at Israel from Gaza earlier today, IAF aircraft targeted a Hamas training compound & an ammunition warehouse in the Gaza Strip,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Twitter. “The IDF holds Hamas solely responsible for all hostile acts against Israel emanating from the Gaza Strip.” It went on to say the retaliatory strikes targeted “two weapons manufacturing sites, a weapons warehouse, a military compound”.
No plans for Serbia to join NATO
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told TASS on Friday that his country is on the European path, but it does not want to join NATO. “Ten days ago, I was in Brussels, at NATO’s headquarters, and told the 29 leaders… that Serbia has no intention of joining NATO,” he said in Belgrade, adding that “Serbia will maintain its military neutrality.” He also said ahead of his visit to Moscow that Belgrade did not impose sanctions on Moscow and will not do that in the future. “No pressure can make us change our position,” he added.
Saudi Air strikes kill 4
Yemeni rebel officials say that at least four people have been killed in Saudi-led airstrikes outside a rebel-run TV station in Yemen’s capital Sanaa, AP reports. Witnesses confirmed the strikes to AP, and the officials said that airstrikes had targeted the gate of the facility just the day before. The Saudi-led coalition invaded Yemen in 2015, and has been at war with Houthi militia since then.
US airstrikes killed five Al-Qaeda militants in Yemen, including two leaders, US Central Command said in a statement on Friday. The strikes took place on November 20 in the Bayda Governorate, and resulted in the deaths of Mujahid al-Adnani (also known as Mohammad Shukri) and Abu Layth al-Sanaani, along with three other militants of the Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), CENTCOM said.
